If one does that, just like trying to extract oil from sand, no matter how hard one tries, one will not attain liberation. Therefore, this is an effort that yields no fruit. Wrong view refers to whatever, such as tolerance, that conceptually apprehends objects in a reversed and distorted way. And what is that wrong conceptualization like? It is to slander causes, results, or actions, and to destroy existing entities. That is, like this: there is no generosity, there is no offering, there is no burnt offering, there is no good conduct and no bad conduct. Whatever is in accordance with this and similar things is to slander the cause. There is no ripening of the results of good conduct and bad conduct, and so on, this is to slander the result. There is no this world, there is no other world, there is no father, there is no mother, there are no spontaneously born beings. This is to slander the action, because it is to slander the action of going to another world and coming back, the action of planting seeds, and the action of connecting continuity. These are slanders against dependent arising on the side of complete affliction. There are no arhats in the world, there are no stream-enterers, and so on. This is to destroy existing entities. This is to slander dependent arising on the side of purification. The previous views are also wrong views because they cause the knowable to be conceptually apprehended in a reversed and distorted way. However, this view of slandering causes, results, and so on, is called wrong view because it is extremely and very much entered into wrongly, and therefore its fault is great. For example, all butter has a smell, but the butter with the worst smell is called rancid butter. If one possesses this, it delays the ripening of the previously accumulated virtues and uproots the seeds of future virtues, and it nourishes and increases the seeds of the three poisons, the root of non-virtue, and one will think that even if one practices non-virtue there is no fault, and even if one practices virtue there is no result. Therefore, one is someone who engages in actions such as cutting off the root of virtue. What is this called cutting off the root of virtue? It is the previou
