No. If asked, "Since afflictions are extremely habitual, why is it necessary to generate joy?" The answer is: "For the most part, it is so, but it also relies somewhat on joy. Causing it to be completely accomplished is like entering the main practice. Causing it to be ultimately accomplished is precisely that (main practice) being well cultivated." The extreme habituation that arises simultaneously at the time of detachment from worldly desire is the body's inability, the body's lack of suppleness, and the mind's inability, which is what causes the mind to be incapable of being used for virtuous objects such as samadhi, and what severs the continuum of the seeds of all the accompanying afflictive dharmas. What is that? The answer is: it is the very ability of body and mind. What are those? The answer is: it is the very ability of body and mind. Among them, the ability of the body is the ability to use the body's actions, such as rising and lightness, as desired. The ability of the mind is the ability to use the mind as desired for virtuous objects. Those in order are also called extreme habituation of the body and extreme habituation of the mind. Is the ability of body and mind, which has the qualities described above, not body and mind themselves? How do those become mind-born? The answer is: extreme habituation is what makes body and mind able, so it is called the ability of body and mind, but it is not the nature of the ability of body and mind. Therefore, whatever mind-born dharma is associated with the arising of the ability of body and mind, which has the qualities described above, is what is shown here as extreme habituation. Because it makes the mind usable for objects as desired, it has the function of removing all obscurations such as afflictions. Among the mindfulness and equanimity that arise simultaneously at the time of detachment from supramundane desire, mindfulness is the guarding of the mind from non-attachment to dwelling in diligence, through the door of repeatedly manifesting virtuous dharmas with and without outflows, cultivating dharmas with outflows, and from afflictions and near afflictions, and from objects that arise and accord with them.

What is not letting go into carelessness? Therefore, by abandoning non-virtue with diligence and non-attachment, etc., and cultivating its antidote, these are called conscientiousness. Worldly perfections, such as excellent bodies and enjoyments, and transcendent perfections, such as the three types of enlightenment, are accomplished and perfected by diligence and non-attachment, etc. Therefore, conscientiousness is what perfects all worldly and transcendent perfections and has the function of accomplishing them. Equanimity: Initially, it is what makes the mind equal by eliminating the inequality of sinking and excitement; in the middle, it is what makes the mind abide by allowing it to enter the object naturally without manifest effort; and finally, it is what makes the mind abide in a spontaneously accomplished state because no effort is needed to counteract sinking and excitement. When the mind abides, there is a need for sinking and excitement to arise because the meditation has not been long. When the mind abides in a spontaneously accomplished state, there is no fear of sinking and excitement arising because the meditation is advanced and the opposing factors are far away, so there is no need to make effort to counteract them. Mental equality and so on are the meaning of the mind abiding in equanimity. Whatever arises from the mind and makes the mind equanimous is called equanimity. When the mind abides in the equanimity described above, there is no opportunity for afflictions such as attachment to arise. Therefore, equanimity is the function of being a basis that does not open the opportunity for afflictions. Non-harming, which has an equal state when benefiting sentient beings, refers to the compassionate mind that cannot bear to see the differences in the suffering of others. It belongs to the category of non-hatred and exists only nominally, not substantially. If one possesses it, one will not harm others by killing, binding, etc., nor will one cause harm to others.
