Oh. There are two kinds of appropriation: appropriation to maturation and appropriation to objects. In the case of the former, feeling itself is the appropriation. In the case of the latter, only consciousness is the appropriation, so there is no fault. Alternatively, feelings of pleasure and pain are the appropriation of clear experience, and the six consciousnesses that are similar to them can also be called friends, which is not contradictory. The reason for considering appropriation as the meaning of realm is that, for those such as the Vaisheshikas who advocate a permanent self, it is reasonable to enjoy objects such as form through the consciousnesses that are related to the permanent self. For those Buddhists who advocate no-self and only acknowledge the aggregates as dharma, it is to dispel the doubt that these consciousnesses rely on what and how they enjoy objects. The third question is about the number of sources: Why are there only twelve sources? Because sources can be divided into internal and external, or into more. Answer: Because as future appropriation, the six roots of body, eyes, etc., which are the place of the six consciousnesses and act as the door of arising, do not need more, and cannot do with less. And as the objects of these appropriations, the six objects of form, etc., which open the door of their arising, do not need more, and cannot do with less. Therefore, the internal and external sources are determined to be twelve. Considering that past and present appropriations have already arisen and do not need a door of arising, it is said "future." The part of the six consciousnesses that opens the door of arising of appropriation is included in the mind source. Mental factors and non-associated formations, and the part of the form contained in the dharma source that opens the door of arising of appropriation, are included in the dharma source. Therefore, the body and the object are determined to be the two. Since they are similar to consciousness in cognition, why are mental factors not placed in the mind source? Because these arise from the mind moment by moment, not with their own kind before.

Because there is no continuity of the subsequent arising from the previous, it is impermanent. There is no ability for other consciousnesses to give a place, because other consciousnesses giving a place are established as the sense-sphere of mind. If these consciousnesses arise from the four conditions in the same way, why are the sense-spheres of the dominant condition and the objective condition established, but not the sense-spheres of the causal condition and the immediately preceding condition? Because the places and objects of these consciousnesses are determined separately, the sense-sphere of the dominant condition, the sense faculty, and the sense-sphere of the objective condition, the object, are established. As the places and objects of these are determined, the causal condition and the immediately preceding condition are not determined separately, because all of these arise from one causal condition, the Alaya-consciousness, and the immediately preceding condition arises from its own previous similar consciousness. Although they are determined separately, those are summarized and shown as the sense-sphere of mind. Therefore, the sense-spheres and elements of the causal condition and the immediately preceding condition of the consciousnesses are not established. If the Alaya-consciousness and the afflicted mind, and those arising from the mind, why are they not established as sense-spheres from the aspect of being the door of arising? If it is said that because the six kinds of close engagement are the door of arising, therefore they are established as sense-spheres from the aspect of being the door of arising of the six consciousnesses, then if there is no self, the necessity of thinking what this close engagement with the six objects such as form is will arise. In order to eliminate that, they are established as sense-spheres from the aspect of being the door of the six consciousnesses. Like this, according to the previously explained reasoning, only the six consciousnesses are suitable for close engagement. That is also through the six faculties as the place, and the six objects as the door of the object, merely knowing that the consciousness that closely engages with the object arises, one will realize that there is no self that closely engages with the object. The so-called door of arising is also merely becoming a means for the arising of consciousness, it is not something with the meaning of a cause of action, because the close combination of a certain part of the Dharma-realm, such as space, benefiting the result is unreasonable. Those also merely become a means for the arising of the consciousness of mind that focuses on itself, for example, an old man dwells on the ground, relies on a cane, and attempts to stand up.
