These will naturally disappear, because if there is no "I," the name of "mine" that depends on it cannot exist. Therefore, here it says the five bases of "mine," not "I" and the base of "mine." Form, etc., are not not the basis of "mine," because there is clinging to form, etc., as "mine." Those who explain that this is for stating the five bases of clinging to "I" and "mine" are not reasonable, because there is no need to show form, etc., as the basis of "mine." If it is said that it is for the sake of preventing clinging to these as "mine," it is not so, because as previously stated, showing these as the basis of "mine" prevents all views of "I," and if that disappears, then all views of "mine" will naturally disappear. If the view of "I" does not disappear, even if form, etc., are shown as the basis of "mine," clinging to these as "mine" will not disappear, because if there is clinging to "I," then the thought of clinging to "mine" will arise naturally. As it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Certainly, attachment to 'I' is, aimed at the internal limbs, its nature will become attached accordingly." Furthermore, if the object of the thought of "mine" has something else to add besides form, etc., then it would be reasonable to show these as the basis of "mine" in order to prevent it. However, those who cling to "mine" only cling to form, etc., such as "this form is mine," and have not seen clinging to anything other than these. If so, then it is also not necessary to show these for the sake of preventing clinging to form, etc., as "I," is it? This is not the same, because in this way, when clinging to "mine," one clings to "this form is mine," but if one clings to form, etc., as "I," one thinks "this form is I," at that time, pointing out that the basis of the object of this clinging to "I" is form is not necessary, because there is no confusion about this. However, it should be pointed out that "this form is not I." Even so, when clinging to form as "I," no one thinks "this form is I," however, the eyes, etc., take form, etc., as objects...

When doing so, I would think that I see shapes and hear sounds. At that time, the shapes, sounds, etc. that are seen and heard are not me, but the sense organs such as the eye within the form aggregate. This is solely to indicate that. Second, the question regarding the definite number of realms is: Why are there only eighteen realms? If summarized, it would also become the three realms of object, sense faculty, and consciousness; if the eye, ear, etc. are divided into pairs, it would also become many. Answer: For the six consciousnesses that closely enjoy the six objects such as form, from the perspective of abiding, to hold onto them, six sense organs such as the body and eye are needed, not more, and it is not possible to have less, so it is definite that there are six sense organ realms. For holding onto these close uses from the perspective of objects, since what is completely held are the six objects, there is no need for more, and it is not possible to have less, so it is definite that there are six object realms. For holding onto the self-characteristics of these close uses, it is definite that there are six consciousness realms, so it is definite that there are eighteen realms. The past is because it has already been held, and the present is because it is being held, so the past and present are mentioned, and the future is not mentioned because there is no certainty of holding. Close use refers to the six consciousnesses that enter here, because they are close to enjoying the six objects such as form. The alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind are not, because they do not enjoy objects. If they also closely use objects such as form, then the sense organs such as the eye would become meaningless, and those who are without perception and those who have entered cessation would also become enjoyers of objects. In the Madhyantavibhaga, it says: "One is the alaya, the consciousness of conditions; the second is the six aggregates, the close users; close use is feeling, action, and complete discrimination cuts off, its actors are mind-born, self and others, etc." Since it is said that feeling is close use, why is it explained as consciousness here? Generally speaking, close use is divided into two types: the enjoyment of birth and the enjoyment of objects. Among them, the first is the ripening of good and evil deeds, such as mental suffering and pleasure, and the second is form, etc., which are liked or disliked.
