Because it shows that there is no desire for the present and the intermediate, it shows that desire is the determination of the object. The function of this is to be the basis for diligence, because whatever one desires, one is diligent in that. The nature of conviction is: from reason and credible teachings, for things that are definitely impermanent and suffering, etc., just as how it is determined, this is just like that, not other than that. Whatever makes the mind abide with that aspect is conviction. This is the nature of not being taken away, the reason why it is called conviction is because it will not be taken away from one's own tenets by other opponents, and it cannot be transformed into other aspects. By "definite things" it shows the determination of the object, because for the uncertain and hesitant, there is no conviction. The nature of mindfulness is: because of familiarity, that is, focusing on things previously experienced, the aspect is that there is no forgetting in the mind, that is, the things previously grasped, repeatedly remembering them in the mind with that aspect, is mindfulness. Here, saying "familiar things" shows the determination of the object, because for the unfamiliar, there is no mindfulness. If things previously experienced repeatedly appear and are remembered in the mind, there is no opportunity for the mind to be distracted to other objects, therefore this is the nature of non-distraction. The nature of samadhi is: focusing on things that should be examined as having qualities and having faults, by continuously abiding the mind on that, making the mind one-pointed, is samadhi. Among them, the things that should be examined are, for those who take the realization of the four truths etc. as the guide, what should be examined as a means of higher rebirth and definite goodness. Among them, the truth of cessation and the truth of the path etc. are qualified with qualities by examining them with aspects such as tranquility etc. and definite departure etc.; the truth of suffering and the truth of origin etc. are to be examined as having faults with aspects such as impermanence etc. and cause arising etc. Similarly, the higher grounds are tranquil and the lower grounds are of a coarse aspect, virtuous actions are to be taken and abandoned, non-virtuous actions

It should be known that various actions such as abandoning (evil) should be done. If the mind is kept calm, one can fully understand as it is, therefore, this is the basis of wisdom and has the function of accomplishing (wisdom). The nature of wisdom is: taking the object to be examined itself as the object, for the phenomena that appear in the mind such as self-characteristics and general characteristics, being able to distinguish and think correctly or wrongly, without confusion. It has three types: generated by reason, generated by non-reason, and different from these two. Among them, what is generated by these three ways of reliable teachings, inference, and direct perception is called wisdom generated by reason. It is also divided into three types: listening, thinking, and meditating, and these wisdoms are respectively from obtaining reliable teachings, from analyzing and researching with one's own reason, and from the power of meditating on correct samadhi. What is generated by non-reason refers to those generated from unreliable teachings, seemingly inferences, and wrong samadhi. These also respectively refer to the wisdom generated from the listening and thinking of non-Buddhists, and the wisdom generated by their bad reasoning, as well as the wisdom that distinguishes self and the world into permanent and impermanent etc. through the practice of meditation. What is neither of the above two refers to the wisdom that is innate and the wisdom that understands the laws of the world. This is the function of eliminating hesitation, because wisdom can thoroughly distinguish all dharmas, thus reaching a clear conclusion. By the phrase "the object to be examined", it shows that both samadhi and wisdom need to determine the object, because they will not act on non-examinable objects. After determining the object, it is necessary to explain the good dharmas, so it is said what is faith. In addition, it is summarized in the Discrimination Theory: If you ask how should these dharmas be viewed so that they can exist consistently with each other? The answer is that at the moment of certainty, they exist consistently with faith. At the moment of liberation from all defilements,
