No. Simultaneous arising and correspondence generally refer to the aggregates, elements, and sources of the same continuum, which have the same nature of arising, ceasing, and abiding. However, in terms of mind and mental factors, it refers to the mind and mental factors of the same continuum that engage in the same object at the same time. The mental factors that cause the sense consciousnesses to become virtuous or afflicted also arise in the retinue of the mind consciousness. The mind consciousness has two natures: searching and determining. The former is entering into the state of searching "What is this?", and the latter is entering into the state of determining "This is it." Virtuous and afflicted mental factors arise in the retinue of the second mind consciousness. Both virtue and affliction arise from two causes: conceptualization and past karma. Among them, the mind consciousness is transformed into virtue or non-virtue by both causes, while the five aggregates of consciousness are transformed only by the power of the karma of the mind consciousness, not by conceptualization, because the five aggregates of consciousness do not have conceptualization. Thus, in the *Yogācārabhūmi*, it is said: "Among them, both affliction and virtuous Dharma arise from two causes: conceptualization and past karma. Among them, the mind consciousness arises from both causes. The five aggregates of consciousness arise only from past karma. The karma of afflicted and virtuous mind consciousness immediately causes affliction and virtuous Dharma to arise in the eye consciousness and so on, not from conceptualization, because they do not have conceptualization. Therefore, the eye consciousness and so on are called followers of the mind consciousness." How do the sense consciousnesses transform into virtue or affliction by the karma of the mind consciousness? First, the eye consciousness sees form. Then, the first mind consciousness with the nature of searching "What is this?" arises.

arise. After that, two mind consciousnesses arise, which have the aspect of determining whether something is beautiful or not. At that time, if it is determined that the object itself has a beautiful aspect, then the second mind consciousness is associated with desire and so on. However, if it is determined to be of an unbeautiful nature, then it arises in association with hatred and so on. When a Khenpo or Acharya or other virtuous friend with similar qualities hears the splendor of the speech of others seeing the splendor, if it is determined to be pure and in accordance, then the mind consciousness arises in association with virtues such as faith. At that time, by the power of the determination of the mind consciousness that arises as virtuous and afflicted, the sense consciousnesses that lead it are also called virtuous and afflicted. At that time, the virtuous qualities such as faith of the mind consciousness retinue, and the afflictions such as desire, and those sense consciousnesses are concomitantly arisen. It is reasonable that those mental events that arise from such virtuous or afflicted minds make the mind consciousness that is in accordance with oneself virtuous or afflicted. So how are the sense consciousnesses, how do they become like that in that and that? If someone's mind consciousness becomes virtuous or afflicted, then the sense consciousnesses that enter the same object together with it also become dependent on it, or also because those mind consciousnesses that have become virtuous or afflicted are also produced by the power of the sense consciousnesses completely cutting off the objects that arise and follow them, therefore the sense consciousnesses are also called virtuous and afflicted. Therefore, sense consciousnesses are divided into three: virtuous, afflicted, and unobscured and unspecified. If, in terms of the concomitantly arising association in the retinue of those, how many mental events can arise in whose retinue? In the retinue of the unobscured and unspecified, it is possible for aspiration, mindfulness, and ascertainment to arise for the determination of objects, and so on. In the mind

Seeing the form of something that is about to come, thereby generating the desire to pursue its meaning, and seeing some things similar to the previously seen form, thereby recalling "This is that," and when seeing some forms that have previously been freed from imputation, in order to generate the intention of being certain in that way again. The wisdom that distinguishes the individual natures of objects such as form may also arise, while the absorption of samadhi and meditation is because of looking inward. The five sense consciousnesses do not arise because their nature is distracted. It is also possible that only the one-pointedness of desire arises. From other changes, investigation and regret may arise. Sleep does not arise because it enters by looking inward, so it does not focus on external objects. Know that virtuous and afflicted states do not arise in any way. Those that arise in the retinue of the obscured and unspecified should be known to also arise in the retinue of virtuous and afflicted states. In the retinue of virtuous sense consciousness, others besides extreme habituation and equanimity may arise. Those are because it is possible to focus on objects such as form. Why do extreme habituation and equanimity not arise? Because those are entered by looking inward through the practice of samadhi, so they do not focus on external objects such as form. In the retinue of afflicted sense consciousnesses, among the six afflictions such as desire, views, pride, and doubt do not arise in any way, because those do not focus on objects such as form, so they do not follow sense consciousness. That is, the view of the aggregates, the view of extremes, and pride look inward because they focus on the self; the view of holding views as supreme focuses on those views; the view of holding vows and asceticism as supreme, because it is believed that vows and asceticism can liberate the self, focuses on the purifying vows and asceticism, and the self to be purified; wrong view and doubt, and truths and karma and its results that are not suitable for sense objects, and the Three Jewels, etc.
