Those are the bodily tactile sensations in a state without hot or cold. Satiety is the tactile sensation that causes one to not desire food or drink due to the balance or imbalance of the elements. Hunger and the remaining ones are established solely from the imbalance of the elements. Among them, hunger is a distinction of tactile sensation in which the wind element is predominant, which generates the desire to seek food called hunger. Thirst is a distinction of tactile sensation in which the fire element is predominant, which generates the intention to seek a drink called thirst. Therefore, the distinction of tactile sensation that is the cause of hunger and thirst is given the name of the fruit of hunger and thirst. Weakness is the tactile sensation of the state in which the body's strength is diminished due to the incompleteness of the causes that make the body's elements grow, such as food. Fainting is a distinction of tactile sensation that, when grasped by the body's consciousness, causes the consciousness of mind and other entering consciousnesses to temporarily cease. For example, just as fainting occurs when a strong person strikes a living being's vital point. Therefore, this is called the distinction of tactile sensation that causes fainting as fainting, and should not be called the tactile sensation that exists in the state of fainting. Because in that state, all sensory consciousnesses have ceased, then which consciousness grasps the tactile sensation called fainting? If consciousness does not perceive it, then the thing exists. It is not possible to establish terminology in this way, because that would be too extreme. Therefore, the previous statement is faultless. Doing so is also in perfect agreement with what is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: "This speaks of aggregates, etc., loss of memory, etc., because of the difference in content, the mind changes." Itching is the tactile sensation of the state in which the elements are not in harmony due to damage to the blood. Sickness is the tactile sensation of the state in which the three diseases are not in equilibrium. Aging is the tactile sensation of the state in which age is completely changed, that is, suffering. Death is the tactile sensation of the state of cutting off the vital point. Fatigue is the tactile sensation of the state in which the body's elements are imbalanced due to efforts such as walking.

These tangibles are merely attributed to the parts of the great elements, and are not separately established as substances like form and sound. Thus, in a summary of thorough ascertainment, it is said: Whatever is taught as the source of tangibles, such as smoothness, up to the ultimate in radiant beauty, is form made by a cause. That is established in those very great elements, and should be understood as imputed to them. It is said. And regarding how to attribute what to which part of the great elements, it is also said in that same text: There, smoothness is attributed in dependence on the purity of the great element. Heaviness is in dependence on accumulation and hardness. Roughness and lightness are in dependence on impurity and non-accumulation and non-hardness. Sliminess is in dependence on softness and smoothness. Coldness is in dependence on what arises from the mixture of water and wind. Hunger and thirst are in dependence on the incompleteness of what shows approximation and imbalance. Diminishment is also the same. Strength and satiety are in dependence on the non-existence of imbalance due to its completeness. Disease is in dependence on the imbalance of disturbance due to incomplete digestion. Aging is in dependence on the imbalance of the change of age. Death is in dependence on the imbalance of the change of the life force. Itching is in dependence on the imbalance of what universally harms the blood. Fainting is in dependence on the imbalance of improper eating. Dampness is in dependence on the mixture of earth and water. Fatigue is in dependence on the imbalance of going, coming, shaking, and striving. Rest is in dependence on the equality of being separated from that. Radiant beauty is attributed in dependence on clearing away impurities and so forth, and being separated from complete withering. If those are summarized, they become only six states of the great elements, namely: purity and impurity together, accumulation and hardness and non-accumulation and non-hardness together, smoothness, mixture, imbalance and balance. Thus, if those six states exist, they become eight, and if eight exist, they also become six. It is said. Because it is touched by the body's sense faculty, it is called tangible, so whoever touches what with what, also thereby
