To be explained. That is, future tangible objects such as smoothness are nominally existent because they are attributed to the increasing and decreasing aspects of the great elements such as earth. Because the basis of that and that becomes the object of the body's sense faculty. Because those do not become the object of their own sense faculty. Shapes such as long and short, and revealing forms, are also nominally existent because they are attributed to the distinctions of color, such as sweetness in one direction. Because without its own basis becoming the object of the eye sense faculty, the thought of seeing long etc. does not arise. Forms belonging to the sphere of phenomena are also of two types: substantially existent and nominally existent. Like this, the completely imputed and the powerful ones, for the samadhi of the unattractive such as skeletons, and the object of the samadhi of liberation, they are clearly grasped without relying on speech etc., therefore they are only substantially existent. Those arising from aggregation, and those that are apparent, and those arising from proper appropriation, are merely approximations of form, therefore they are only nominally existent. Whatever is said in the Vibhasha, that those arising from aggregation and those that are apparent are of the nature of color, therefore they are gathered there, what the great ones said is not considered reasonable. Because atoms are merely posited by mental imputation, they contradict the nature of color. The sense faculties such as the eye are not established by experiencing other things such as form, so how is it known that those are established as substantial? It is known from inference. If the sense faculties such as the eye were merely completely imputed and not substantially existent, then the co-emergent basis of the aggregates of consciousness of the sense faculties would not have separate determinations, therefore, like consciousness, there would be no separate determination for objects such as form, and the place of birth would also have no separate determination. But that is not the case, the aggregates of consciousness of the sense faculties such as the eye have separate determinations for the place of birth and the object of focus, that is, the eye sense faculty.

The reason why the places where various things arise simultaneously can be determined to be different is only because their respective causes are different. Because no other reasons have been found. Specifically, it is not because the respective causes and immediately following conditions can be determined. Because the sense consciousnesses arise simultaneously from the same seed, which is the sum of the four conditions that are the cause, just like the conditions, it is impossible to determine their respective differences. Nor can it be said that it is because the external objects such as form and sound can be determined to be different. Even so, the eye consciousness can only grasp form, and the ear consciousness can only grasp sound, and this certainty will not change. Because there is no difference in their internal operative causes. Even if the immediately following conditions can be determined to be different, the same fault will occur as with the sense consciousnesses. In this way, it can be determined that the consciousnesses of the senses determine their respective objects because the places where they arise simultaneously are different. In this way, it is enough to mention it in passing. Now I will explain the main text. The main text is divided into two parts: summary and detailed explanation. The first part is: All forms that have the nature of both visible and invisible, in short, are produced by the four great elements as the cause and the four great elements as the result as the cause. Why is it called the great element? Because when various resultant forms are formed, they appear in various forms. Or, from beginningless time, due to the influence of karma, it has never appeared, so it is called "birth." Also, because it is the basis of all resultant forms, it is very important. Or, because any aggregate is pervaded by any element such as earth, its existence is very broad, so it is called "great." Or, because it is the source of all resultant forms, it is called "birth." And because it pervades all aggregated forms, it is called "great." In terms of the function of producing resultant forms, no more than these four are needed, and less is not possible, so there are only four. Why? Because the resultant forms can be clearly accomplished only by relying on these four functions of support, aggregation, maturation, and movement.
