Therefore, the four, such as earth, are called "elements" because they are the source of all forms of fruit. What is that? If any of the four functions of dependence, collection, ripening, and movement are lacking, it is impossible for a seed to produce a sprout, and for a sprout to produce a stem, leaf, flower, and fruit, etc. Moreover, the functions of dependence, etc., are also the unmistakable functions of earth, etc. Forms, sounds, etc., are called "originated from the elements" because they depend on the elements such as earth, etc., such as arising, abiding, decaying, and increasing. If the elements such as earth do not arise without other elements of the same kind as themselves, and if they change, they also change, then in all cases, are they not dependent on the elements? How can it be said that they are not originated from the elements? It is not so, because like forms, etc., the forms of fruit, when they first arise, also depend on the cause of other elements, and in the middle, decay and increase also depend on the decay and increase of elements different from themselves. But the elements, etc., do not depend on the decay and increase of other elements different from themselves. Otherwise, the kinds of elements would extend infinitely. Therefore, the elements such as earth arise only from the cause of their own similar previous kind, and not from what is produced by taking the four elements as the cause. Forms, sounds, etc., the forms of fruit, which are newly produced without a similar previous kind, are produced by the four elements as equal causes, and those that have already been established and continue to exist, their equal cause is the similar previous kind, and the elements, etc., are only the basis for decay and increase. Therefore, it is also said in the sutra: "What is form? It is produced by taking the four great elements as the cause." I think so. If the proximate cause of the forms to be produced is only the elements, then the sense faculties such as the eyes of sentient beings should not arise as good and bad natures, because all are produced from the proximate cause of the four great elements, and are the same, so producing good and bad

Because there is no difference in the root. It is not uncertain, because the difference in fruits is different, it is because the difference in roots is different. Therefore, the births of good and bad destinies will become without difference, because their eyes and other birthplaces have no good or bad distinctions. For example, the thickness of the cause silk wool has no good or bad distinction, but due to the difference in weaving and patterns, the result will become good and bad cloths. The causes of earth, water, fire, and wind are the same, but due to the master's causes, the merit and non-merit karma, the roots of good and bad destinies have good and bad differences. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Karma is not the master, there the roots are also the same." Just like what is said. The eyes and other roots of good and bad destinies, because the four great elements of the proximate cause are the same, so in the tangible, the kind is the same, so it is not a different kind. Therefore, from the difference of the proximate cause, the kind will become different. Even if the kind is the same, there will be good and bad distinctions due to the difference of the co-acting causes. Know these. Those who speak of no self-nature and only consciousness think that the things such as form established by the Tathagata are said because there is a need, and are expedient sayings rather than the true meaning. As it is said in the Sixty Stanza Reasoning: "For the sake of need, the victorious ones say I and mine, the aggregates, realms, and places are also said for the sake of need." And it is also said in the Twenty Verses: "For those beings who need to be tamed, he says there are places such as form, which are said according to their thoughts, just like illusory beings." And in the Pramāṇavārttika it is said: "He treats it with an equal attitude, like an elephant watching, only with the mind of the world, he enters the realm of external objects." Because of this saying. If you ask from where do you know that things such as form are said because there is a need, and are not true? It can be known from reasoning and scripture, just like these Madhyamaka people, the Sixty Stanza Reasoning says that the four great elements, etc., are completely contained in consciousness, and understanding it can understand.
