These are definitely possessed in the manner of universal origination. Except for the last three, the rest have both possession and non-possession. The last three do not possess universal origination, but in the manner of seeds, there is both possession and non-possession, namely, those with the nature of completely passing beyond suffering and those without. Just as sentient beings born in hell, so too should one regard the animals and pretas who are entirely suffering. Those born as humans also correspond to all in existence. Just as those born as humans, so too are those born as gods. Those who lack complete faculties, except for any of the five senses such as the eye, correspond to all in existence. Those with complete faculties correspond to all in existence. Food, except for the male and female faculties and the last three, corresponds to all in existence. Male and female, except for any of the male and female faculties, correspond to all in existence. Hermaphrodites possess nineteen of existence, having abandoned the last three. Those who have severed the root of virtue, except for eight, possess the others in existence. Those who have not severed the root of virtue correspond to all in existence. Ordinary individuals, except for the last three, correspond to nineteen in existence. Those who have seen the truth correspond to all in existence. Learners, except for the last, correspond to twenty-one in existence. Non-learners, except for displeasure and the first two uncontaminated ones, correspond to nineteen. Those abiding in the fruit of stream-entry, having abandoned the first and last two uncontaminated ones, possess twenty. Just as the fruit of stream-entry, so too are those who have entered the fruit of once-returner, and the once-returner and non-returner. Those who have entered the fruit of stream-entry, having abandoned the last two uncontaminated ones, correspond to twenty in existence. Those abiding in the fruit of non-returner, having abandoned the first and last two uncontaminated ones and displeasure, correspond to nineteen. Those who have entered the fruit of Arhat are also the same. Those abiding in the fruit of Arhat, having abandoned the first two uncontaminated ones and displeasure, may possess nineteen. When dying and transmigrating from the desire realm to be born in the desire realm, how many faculties are abandoned

If asked, what are acquired and abandoned? Except for the last eight (referring to the eight noble path factors), there are those that abandon the inferior and acquire the superior, those that abandon the inferior and acquire other inferior ones, those that abandon the superior and acquire the inferior, and those that abandon the superior and acquire other superior ones. For example, virtuous qualities such as faith abandon the previous inferior and acquire other, more superior ones; there is no acquisition of the inferior, because the previous faith, etc., are the cause for the later faith, etc., to increase more and more. The last three (the realm of nothingness, the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, and cessation) are incompatible with birth. If one dies from the desire realm and is reborn in the form realm, which faculties are abandoned and which are acquired? Answer: All the faculties of the lower realm are abandoned, and it is considered that all the faculties of the upper realm are acquired from existence. Similarly, it should be viewed in the same way for those who die from the desire realm and are reborn in the formless realm, and those who die from the form realm and are reborn in the formless realm. What is the nature of detailed differentiation? If differentiated in detail, there are twenty-two faculties. If summarized briefly, they can also be summarized into two faculties: defilement and purification. The explanation of the brief determination of the faculties is complete. One aspect of the form aggregate is the five faculties of the eye, etc., and the male and female faculties. One aspect of the formation aggregate is the life faculty and the five, such as faith. The twelve realms are the five faculties and the seven consciousness realms. The six sense bases are the inner six sense bases. One aspect of the dharma realm and the dharma base is the life faculty, happiness, etc., and the five, such as faith. When one controls the defiled and purified dharmas, or when one merely cognizes the faculties as dharmas, one abandons the attachment to self. The characteristic of the feeling of suffering is that, by its very nature, it is the suffering of suffering. The dharmas that become the experience of suffering, namely the faculties and objects, and those that are associated with them, are regarded as the suffering of suffering because they are the cause of experiencing suffering. One aspect of all things is the feeling of suffering together with its location. The suffering of suffering

By knowing (these) merely as Dharma, one abandons attachment to self. The feeling of experiencing happiness, and the self-characteristic dharmas that accord with experiencing it, when the faculties and objects change, those with attachment will again experience displeasure; and, because of attachment to happiness and to what becomes the experience of happiness, the mind becomes different from its previous state. Therefore, the suffering of change is one aspect of all things, namely the dharmas that are happiness and become the experience of happiness. By knowing the suffering of change merely as Dharma, one abandons attachment to self. The feeling that is neither suffering nor happiness, namely equanimity, and the dharmas that become the experience of it, and the complete grasping of the bad situation of both suffering and the suffering of change, and because one is not liberated from both of these, sometimes one relies on the state of happiness, and sometimes one relies on the state of suffering, always going around in circles, and not merely remaining in the state of equanimity. Therefore, since it is bound by impermanence and is not happiness, one should recognize the contaminated equanimity feeling with its basis as the suffering of conditioning itself. Among the aggregates, elements, and sense-fields, the last three and two aspects are all those except for the uncontaminated. By knowing the suffering of conditioning, the equanimity feeling with its place, merely as Dharma, one abandons attachment to self. Those associated with maturation, in reality, are the non-virtuous and virtuous, contaminated (dharmas), which are regarded as associated with maturation because they leave seeds of maturation that cause rebirth. The seven consciousness elements, and the form, sound, and dharma elements, namely the ten elements, and the form, sound, dharma, and mind sense-fields, namely one aspect of the four sense-fields, are all those included by the non-virtuous, virtuous, and contaminated. When one knows merely as Dharma the maturation associated with leaving the imprints of the aggregates of rebirth and causing rebirth, one abandons attachment to self. Secondly, the associated dharmas are: the actual result is: the alaya-consciousness together with its associated mental factors, because they are the nature of the complete maturation of previous karma.
