因为是能控制的缘故。因此，根本身能控制对境的享受。控制种姓的根是，男女根，因为从那二者产生儿子和孙子等的种姓。其余的应当如主人的因缘那样讲述，很容易理解。如何决定诸根呢？那应当以意义和安立，以及分类三种方式来理解。其中，什么是根的意义呢？控制的意义是根的意义。为了显示什么而安立诸根呢？为了在那一个又一个的，烦恼和清净之基上，主要显示那一个又一个的法。那么，这二十二根的安立是怎样的呢？那应当以数量决定安立和作用等安立两种方式来理解。其中，第一种是，所要控制的法有两种，与烦恼方面相应的，以及与清净方面相应的。其中，对第一种进行控制的是，与烦恼方面相应的根。对第二种进行控制的是，与清净方面相应的根。那些也就是眼等十四根，以及信等八根，按照次第。其中，如何安立烦恼方面的十四根呢？以控制完全显示能食者有情之物的意义，安立眼等六根，因为对这内在的六处，施设为有情之物。以控制未生的有情之物产生之意义，安立男女根，因为依靠那二者的控制，而于胎中受生。以控制已生的有情之物相续存在，以及控制相续存在者死亡转移之意义，安立命根，因为从它存在与不存在而施设生存和死亡之名。那些是能食者有情的

That should be understood in two ways: the establishment of definite numbers and the establishment of functions, etc. Among them, the first is that there are two kinds of things to be controlled: those that are in accordance with the side of defilement and those that are in accordance with the side of purification. Among them, what controls the first is the faculty that is in accordance with the side of defilement. What controls the second is the faculty that is in accordance with the side of purification. Those are also the fourteen faculties such as the eye, and the eight faculties such as faith, in order. Among them, how are the fourteen faculties on the side of defilement established?
