Because of transformation, it arises from its own causal condition. Formative things arise from both the causal and dominant conditions. Non-associated compositional factors do not have a separate causal condition, but arise only from the dominant condition. Thus, having generally established the four conditions, in order to extensively explain the nature of each of them, among the four, the first is the causal condition. From the two, the ultimate causal condition and the conventional causal condition, considering the first, it is said that the ālaya-vijñāna and the virtuous habit are, in order, the causal conditions of defiled and undefiled dharmas. There are two types of ālaya-vijñāna: the resultantly matured and the manifestly active. Among these, the resultantly matured is the causal condition of dharmas heard from birth. The ālaya-vijñāna arising from manifest activity should be understood as the special habit arising simultaneously with the entering consciousness of this life. Although the commentary explains it this way, the nature of resultant maturation is the ultimate nature of the complete maturation of the habit of karma, so it does not act as a causal condition for any other dharma. However, it only acts as a dominant condition for all dharmas arising from birth and familiarization. Whatever aspect of the seed is, that is the causal condition of all dharmas, which has already been extensively explained. The virtuous habit is the undefiled seed of the distinction of the six sense bases. How that becomes the cause of undefiled dharmas has already been extensively explained before. Regarding the conventional causal condition, it is also said, "The very nature of the entity," and so on. The very nature of the entity is the cause. The distinction is the distinction of its aspect. Friend is the co-emergent cause. Truly understanding is the co-arising cause. Vast is the similar cause. Intermediate action is the pervasive cause. Completely holding is the resultantly matured cause. Each of these is extensively explained as follows: The very nature of the entity is the agent cause, because it is the very nature or essence of the cause. Therefore, the remaining causes are also agents.

Although it is the nature of change, in order to separately establish the acting factors that are not included in them, the acting factors are explained separately. The detailed classification of acting factors is: arising place, support, clarity, change, separation, transformation, conviction, causing conviction and attainment, name, dependence and throwing, accomplishment, holding, destroying, separate determination, simultaneous action and non-concordance. Twenty acting factors are briefly shown. This is the verse of summary. Among them, the aggregation of causes and conditions of the six consciousnesses, namely object, faculty, attention, etc., is the acting factor of arising, because it causes the fruit, namely consciousness, to arise. For example, this means that in this way, whatever causes and conditions that cause the unarisen fruit to arise should be regarded as the acting factor of arising. The four foods are the acting factor of dwelling for all sentient beings who have already connected with the five realms of existence, and for all beings who are seeking beings and dwelling in the intermediate state, because they cause the already arisen continuum not to be interrupted. The great earth is the acting factor of support for moving and non-moving sentient beings, because it prevents them from falling. The lamp is the acting factor of clarity for forms in dark places, because it makes the object of self-grasping consciousness clear. Fire is the acting factor of change for firewood, because it can transform the kind of firewood into other forms such as coal. The sickle is the acting factor of separation for grass and straw, etc., that are to be harvested, because it can cut off the connection between them. Goldsmiths and others who are skilled in craftsmanship are the acting factors of transformation for gold, silver, etc., because they can transform gold nuggets, etc., into different parts such as bracelets and necklaces. Smoke is the acting factor of causing conviction of hidden fire, because hidden fire can be inferred from smoke. Oaths, reasons, and metaphors, etc., are the acting factors that cause the opponent to be convinced of the established proposition.
