Therefore. Because dissimilar causes do not produce dissimilar results, it is certain that causes and results are separate. Eighth, the profound teaching of dependent origination through these meanings: These external and internal dependent originations are profound in terms of cause, because they abandon the absence of cause and arising from dissimilar causes through the two meanings of having no agent and having a cause. Profound in terms of self-nature, because the meaning of being without sentient beings is the absence of self. Profound in terms of arising, because although results arise from conditions, they are not made by them, through the two meanings of the power of others and immovability. Profound in terms of abiding, because although there is no abiding, it appears as abiding through the two meanings of impermanence and momentariness. Profound in terms of arising, because the way in which results arise from causes is very difficult to understand through the remaining four meanings. Furthermore, dependent origination should also be viewed as profound from another perspective. In this way, one's own nature does not remain for even a moment, yet it is also perceived as permanent. It also arises from the unwavering conditions that precede the mind, and it is also perceived that results arise from causes that are consistent with the conditions that possess the power to generate consistent results. And in the ultimate sense, it is also without sentient beings or self, but it is also perceived that it is designated as sentient beings in conventional terms. And there is also no agent, but it is also perceived that the ripening results of the actions that have been done are not wasted and are experienced separately. And because it arises from causes and conditions that are free from the four extremes, it is viewed as profound. Why is it free from the four extremes? Dependent origination is not made by me, because it is contradictory for oneself to act on oneself. If it arises from itself, then it will never change to not arising, because it does not depend on other causes and conditions. It does not arise from others, because dissimilar kinds cannot be causes and results, and because the causes and conditions of similar kinds are also not reasonable for others. If results arise from dissimilar kinds of causes, then fire should also arise from crystal, which is too extreme.

If so. It is not from both, because it would lead to two faults. It is not born from no cause, because it would become born in all places, times, and circumstances, or it would not be born even once. The so-called not self-made, not other-made, is spoken from the nature of the cause. The so-called not self-born, not other-born, is spoken from the nature of the result, so there is no difference in meaning. Not made by both, and not made by no cause, are also derived from it. The commentary says, not made by myself, because the maker does not exist since he is not born. Not made by others, because the conditions are not the maker. Not made by both, because it is the cause of those two. Not self-made, not other-made, and not born from no cause, because the conditions are able to produce the result. Another way of saying it is, not made by myself, because it depends on conditions. Not made by others, because even if there are conditions, it will not arise without a seed. Not made by both, because those two are without movement. It is also not born from no cause, because both the seed and the conditions have the ability. Furthermore, it is born from its own seed, not from others. Because it depends on it, it is not made by itself. That is because the ability is not born from no cause. Because there is no movement, it is not made by both. This is how it is explained. Ninth, the classification of that dependent origination is: The classification by the arising of consciousness, such as relying on the eye and form, the eye consciousness arises, and so on. The classification by death and birth is in terms of the world of sentient beings, such as ignorance conditions action, and so on. The classification by the arising of external crops is relying on the seed to produce sprouts, from the sprouts to produce stems, and similarly to produce nodes, leaves, flowers, and fruits, etc., from the former to produce the latter. The classification of dependent origination by destruction and formation is relying on the common karma of sentient beings, the arising and destruction of the great earth, etc. The classification of dependent origination sustained by food is relying on the four foods.
