It is through the three: the object, the dominant condition, and combination. Why do these limbs not become conditions through the causal condition? Because the causal condition is distinguished by its own seed. If it does not become a condition through the causal condition, why is dependent origination taught as the nature of cause and effect? It is because of the power of the causal condition, which is the cause that gathers, the cause that projects, and the cause that accomplishes. It is said, and in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha it is said: What should be said to be the condition for the second limb of dependent origination? It is the dominant condition. It is said. Here, it is said that the earlier limbs each perform four conditions for the later limbs. Like this, ignorance is the causal condition for the formations, because the formations arising from the mindstream imbued with the habits of ignorance cause existence to be manifestly formed again. It performs the immediately preceding condition, because the later formations of the force of ignorance arise continuously. It performs the objective condition, because in a state of delusion, one improperly attends to what is supreme, etc., as an object. It performs the dominant condition, because by its power, the mind and mental factors that arise simultaneously with it fixate on the object in a reversed manner. This is in terms of non-form formations, but for form formations, apply whatever is appropriate, except for the objective condition and the immediately preceding condition. The remaining limbs should also be applied as appropriate. How are these three texts, such as the Yogācārabhūmi, different in how they establish the aspects of conditions? There is no contradiction. Because the earlier limbs are definitely the dominant condition for the later limbs, only the dominant condition is taught in the Saṃgraha. However, it is possible that they also perform the function of other conditions, so in this text and the Yogācārabhūmi, three or four conditions are established. Moreover, the ultimate causal condition is only the seed of the basis of all, so considering this, it is said in the Yogācārabhūmi that it does not perform the causal condition. However, the conventional causal condition is...

It is also possible for some actions, and considering only this point, it is established here as the cause of the cause, but this is not the cause of this, not the true cause. Fifth, establishing the functions of each limb: Ignorance is what makes beings deluded in existence, because they are obscured by it, so they cannot truly know the past, future, and middle as they are. Just like here, I will doubt whether I existed in the past, or whether I did not exist, etc. Actions are also the cause of the arising of all afflictions, because under their influence, they will create actions that accomplish rebirth, etc. Why are meritorious and immovable actions not accomplished after being separately examined by wisdom? Why is it said that they arise from ignorance? Because although the motivation at that time does not have virtuous roots such as lack of delusion, due to the influence of ignorance, which is the motivation at the time of the cause being merely deluded about that meaning, it will produce rebirth. If it is said that greed, hatred, and delusion are all the basis of karma, why is only delusion taken as the basis of karma? Because greed and hatred are only the basis of non-meritorious karma, while ignorance is the basis of all three karmas, so ignorance itself is the basis of everything. In the explanation of the Sutra of Dependent Arising, it is also said: The cause of actions is, ignorance is taught to be of two kinds, together with afflictions as the general cause, without that as the main cause. This is what is said. Actions are what separate beings in samsara, because under the influence of their respective karmas, they will accomplish various results such as good and bad destinies. It is also the cause of the habits of consciousness, because it will cover the seeds of accomplishment such as name and form. If consciousness also arises from the cause of name and form, why is it only said that action is its cause? Because meritorious and other actions will make consciousness completely defiled, and will throw it into samsara, and will manifest

It causes accomplishment. Name and form are merely the causes that arise as the basis and object of focus, and that is all; it is not like that. Consciousness is what holds the binding of karmic imprints that accomplish the rebirth of sentient beings, because formations hold special imprints. It is also a cause of name and form, because name and form develop from entering the womb. If name and form arise from the great elements and contact, why is it said that only consciousness is its cause? Consciousness is the cause that newly produces it, while the elements and contact are merely the causes that exist once born and at the time of birth. Why is consciousness the producer of new name and form? Because the connection from the intermediate state to the state of birth is the alaya consciousness, and by its power, name and form, which did not exist before, are newly accomplished in the mother's womb. If it is formed in the womb based on the six elements, why is only the function of consciousness mentioned? Because if there is a consciousness element, the great elements of sperm and blood in the mother's womb and the cavity of the womb will not be lacking, so the consciousness element is definitely the main one, and it is the time of birth in all places of birth and existence. Name and form cause sentient beings to enter into taking a body, because if it is accomplished, sentient beings will depend on other similar beings. It is also the cause of the six sense bases, because depending on their development, the sense bases such as the eye arise. If the six sense bases also arise from the cause of food, why is it said that only name and form are its cause? Name and form are the cause that produces it, while food is merely the cause of what is already born, existing, and dependent. The six sense bases cause sentient beings to enter into taking a complete body, because if they are accomplished, other faculties will not be lacking. It is also the cause of contact, because if they exist, contact will inevitably occur.
