In this way, one should understand the births from higher realms to lower realms, from lower realms to higher realms, and from one's own realm to one's own realm, according to the circumstances. It is certain that the karma that leads to birth in the desire realm only ripens in the desire realm. The karma that leads to birth in the higher realms ripens in any of the lower realms, but not in the higher realms or in one's own realm, because the higher realms are free from attachment to the lower realms, and in one's own realm, there is no meditation on the aspects of quiescence and grossness. The one who dies from one's own realm and is reborn in one's own realm is also due to the reason that the karma accumulated in the lower realms has the reason to be experienced in other instances, and not because it was newly accomplished there. Why is it called dependent origination? Is it because it arises with rapid destruction? Or because it arises in dependence on the mutual aggregation of cause and condition? Therefore, it is called dependent origination. Third, the abbreviated summary of the limbs: These twelve limbs as described above, if summarized briefly, become four limbs, namely: at the time of the cause, the limb that propels and the limb that is propelled; at the time of the result, the limb that manifests and accomplishes, and the limb that is manifested and accomplished. Among them, the propelling limb is the three, such as ignorance, that is, relying on ignorance, action propels consciousness in the manner of specifically imprinting the habitual tendencies that will definitely give rise to name and form. The propelled limb is from name and form to feeling, because these are the nature of the ripening of the karma of the propelling action. What sows these seeds of future accomplishment on the alaya is the meaning of being propelled. The limb that manifests and accomplishes is the three, such as craving, that is, relying on craving, appropriation, with the habitual tendencies of karma, manifests and accomplishes by tending towards the production of existence. The limb that is manifested and accomplished is birth and old age and death, because the stage of the manifested accomplishment of the name and form that were propelled in this way is limited to this. Thus, the initial accomplishment of the nature of name and form, etc., is

Is birth, becoming different stages after establishment is aging, and ultimately ceasing is death. Among them, the propelling limbs and the propelled limbs are the cause and effect of stages such as cause. Manifestly accomplishing and manifestly accomplished limbs are the cause and effect of the stage of complete ripening of the fruit. Thus, cause and effect are determined to be twice. Why are craving and grasping not propelling limbs? Because they are not born at the time of karma, etc. Why are birth and aging and death not propelled limbs? Because they are only stages of name and form, etc., so there are no seeds of birth and aging and death in them, etc. Why are ignorance, etc., not manifestly accomplishing limbs? Because at the time when the fruit is manifestly accomplished, they have ceased and no longer exist nearby. Why are name and form, etc., not the manifestly accomplished fruit? Because the faults of the stage when name and form, etc., are manifestly clear are called the manifestly accomplished fruit, and name and form, etc., are the basis that has that fault. These are also as stated in the Sutra on Dependent Arising: By what is propelled and how is it filled, that which accomplishes it, also in that, whatever faults there are, all those are shown by the twelve limbs. Fourth, the limbs are established as conditions. In the Yogacarabhumi, by what condition does ignorance become the condition for actions, etc.? For those with form, it becomes a condition by the dominant condition. For those without form, it becomes a condition only by these three: the immediately preceding condition, the objective condition, and the dominant condition. The remaining limbs should be regarded as becoming conditions as appropriate. Those with form, for those with form, by one dominant condition. For those without form, by the objective condition and the dominant condition, two. Those without form, for those with form, by only one. Those without form, for those without form, by the immediately preceding condition.
