If the six sense sources arise from the confluence of three factors, why is it said that only the six sense sources are the cause? If the six sense sources are present, the other two (name and form) will be complete, therefore it is the main cause, and it encompasses the other two. Contact causes sentient beings to be immersed in the enjoyment of objects, because through it, sentient beings can experience pleasure, etc., and thus enjoy various objects. It is also the cause of feeling, because when contact fully determines the object that can experience pleasure, etc., the feeling of experiencing pleasure, etc., will inevitably arise. If we consider that feeling may also arise from one's own and others' efforts, seasonal changes, and the influence of past karma, etc., why is it said that contact is its cause? Because contact is the universally close cause, and it is also the factor that leads to other causes, and if there is contact, there is feeling, and if there is no contact, there is no feeling. Feeling causes sentient beings to be immersed in the enjoyment of existence, because relying on it, sentient beings can enjoy the fruition of virtuous deeds, etc. It is also the cause of craving, because through wanting to meet or separate from it, craving arises. If it is said that craving may also arise from ignorance and the causes of objects corresponding to ignorance, why is it said that only feeling is its cause? Because under the control of feeling, the desire to meet and not separate from objects arises, and due to pure ignorance, one does not truly understand the nature of the corresponding objects, as well as the arising, ceasing, and suffering of these feelings, and therefore does not turn the mind away from them. Craving is the factor that leads sentient beings to future existence, because it prevents the continuation of life in the next life. It is also the cause of grasping, because through wanting to taste flavors, attachment and clinging to objects such as desires arise. If grasping does not arise from undiscarded latent tendencies and the dharmas corresponding to those tendencies, why is it said that craving alone is the cause? Because it arises in desire

When seeking a place, it also awakens latent habits and guides the corresponding dharmas. Grasping is because it grasps future existence, enabling the consciousness of sentient beings to grasp future existence, because the consciousness with karmic imprints determines the connection of the continuum to specific realms such as hell. It is also the cause of existence, because the karmic imprints nourished by it are the existence that manifestly inclines towards generating birth. If existence also arises from the cause of ignorance, why is only grasping the cause? Because the power of grasping has the ability to guide consciousness and name and form to that particular place of birth. Existence is what makes sentient beings manifestly inclined towards rebirth. Because it immediately leads to other realms. It is also the cause of birth, because it gives rise to other similar kinds. If birth also arises from causes such as semen and blood, why is only existence shown as the cause? Because if there is existence, all other causes of birth will be complete, so it is the main factor of the cause. Birth is what gradually manifests and accomplishes name and form up to feeling in the continuum of sentient beings, because the stage of gradual accomplishment is called birth. It is also the cause of aging and death, because they transform and decay into other stages. If it is observed that aging and death also arise from time and not abandoning old age, and other harms, why is only birth said to be the cause? Because the root of those causes is also birth, and even if those causes are absent, aging and death arise from birth. Aging and death repeatedly combine sentient beings with aging and the change of life, because it is the nature of maturity and the complete destruction of life. Sixth, the limbs gather the three afflictions, namely ignorance, craving, and grasping.

That is, the mind is not completely pacified, and it causes suffering to oneself and others, therefore it is the pervasive affliction of affliction. The three, formation, consciousness and craving, are the nature and habitual tendencies of karma, each according to its own kind, and because they immediately cause suffering to body and mind, and produce fruition in the future, therefore they are the pervasive afflictions of karma. Formation is the nature of karma, and existence is a special habitual tendency of karma, therefore it can be karma, but how does consciousness become karma? Consciousness with the habitual tendency of karma is a limb of dependent origination here, and also because it is distinguished by karma. The remaining ones are the nature of the fruition of the first two pervasive afflictions, therefore they are called the pervasive afflictions of existence. The noble Nagarjuna said: The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions, the second and tenth are karma, and the remaining seven are suffering. It is also said like that. Those are also called the three parts of dependent origination. They are also called the three paths. Seventh, regarding the meaning of the word dependent origination. These inner and outer fruits are the meaning expressed by the word dependent origination, because they arise from mere unwavering conditions without a maker such as Isvara. Similarly, they do not arise without a cause, but arise from causes and conditions that are in accordance with ignorance and so on. Because self is not the nature of sentient beings or self. Because it is only subject to other conditions, and is not independent. Because the causes that produce oneself do not have the thought of producing this. Because it does not exist permanently, and ultimately it is impermanent and destructive. Because it does not abide beyond the time of birth, it is momentary. Because the moment of the cause ceases, the moment of the effect arises, and the continuity of cause and effect is not interrupted. Not everything arises from everything, but cause and effect arise in accordance with each other. Because one or many effects arise from one or many causes, cause and effect are diverse.
