Therefore, some say "one side," so in this way, the realm and the last three sense bases and two sense bases' side are the collections of the truth of the path and the unconditioned. The side of the aggregates is the collections of the path and what is obtained from the path's aftermath. As it is said in the 'Incomparable Praise': "Faults and defects are eradicated from the root, virtues increase and are completely purified, you possess good and excellent reasoning, and have especially attained supreme accomplishment." Like this, when one knows that there are no faults to be abandoned and only uncontaminated dharma possessing all virtues, then one abandons clinging to the accomplishment of such a self as uncontaminated. Dependent arising has three key points: a brief explanation, and a detailed explanation. The first point is: "How is it dependent arising?" and so on. That is, the object to be understood, dependent arising itself, should be fully understood through ten aspects such as its nature. Among these, the nature that understands the nature of dependent arising, and the differentiation of the parts of the basis that possesses that nature, and the brief condensation of those differentiated parts into four parts of cause and effect, and the establishment of those parts as the preceding preceding being the condition for the following following, and the establishment of the way in which the preceding preceding parts act on the following following parts, and the condensation of those parts into three kinds of afflictions, and the meaning of the word dependent arising, and its profundity because it is difficult to understand that meaning, and the detailed differentiation of all the commonalities of inner and outer dependent arising, and the demonstration of the ways of cultivating that are in accordance with and not in accordance with reason in order to abandon inner dependent arising, one should also observe whether these are truly establishing dependent arising. One side of the dharma realm and sense bases, except for the unconditioned, because it does not rely on cause and condition, is not dependent arising. When one knows that all arising arises from an unmoving cause, etc., as dependent arising, then, like throwing away something far away, one thinks that the inner things and outer dharmas that are the basis for the imputation of self have no cause, and like the Samkhya school, one thinks that Isvara and the chief one, etc., are incompatible.

Thus, it eliminates the attachment to appearances arising from causes, because dependent origination is the antidote to all wrong views. There are ten aspects to explain these in detail. For now, regarding the nature of dependent origination, the Blessed One said in the Sutra of Distinguishing Separately: "This existing, that arises; this arising, that arises. For example, ignorance conditions volitional formations," and so on. The meaning of "This existing, that arises" is: inner and outer results arise from unwavering causes. The result arises merely from the proximity of cause and condition, not because the cause and condition think in advance, "I shall produce such a result," and are unwavering. This refutes the assertion of a conscious agent such as Ishvara and Brahma. The meaning of "This arising, that arises" is: results arise from impermanent causes. If the self-nature of the cause is not established by conditions, then no result will arise, just like space, etc., because their self-nature is not established. Even if it were established, conditions could not differentiate it, so all results would either arise simultaneously or never arise. This refutes those who speak of a permanent agent, such as the Pradhana, even though it has no mental wavering. The meaning of "For example, ignorance conditions volitional formations," and so on, is: although unwavering and impermanent, not every condition produces every result. Rather, just as ignorance conditions volitional formations, a result arises that is in accordance with the condition that has the power to produce a result in accordance with it. This refutes those who say that the elements such as earth can give rise to consciousness, etc. In short, what arises from a condition possessing three characteristics is the nature of dependent origination. What are the three characteristics? They are unwavering, etc. Among them, the first characteristic eliminates ignorance of the past extreme, because these inner and outer results are not predetermined by a previous agent such as Ishvara.

This is to dispel doubts such as "Has it been done?" The second is to dispel confusion about one's own nature in the present. Because it arises from permanent causes such as the chief, one ascribes permanence to one's own nature, thinking that it does not arise and cease momentarily. This is to prevent such superimposition, because a result that arises from impermanent causes and conditions has no chance of being permanent. The third is to dispel confusion about the extreme of the future. It is to dispel the assertion that from discordant causes such as animal sacrifices, discordant results such as the happiness of the heavens will arise in the future. For the result arises in accordance with the cause, and discordant results do not arise from discordant causes. Thus, those who are external to this Dharma do not accept dependent origination, because they accept a maker and a permanent cause, and some say there is no cause. All insiders speak of dependent origination, for otherwise they would be external to this Dharma, because they do not accept the profound essence of the Tathagata's teachings. As the master Nagarjuna said: This dependent origination is the Victorious One's, the most profound treasure of the treasury of speech. As it is said. Even so, not all proponents of philosophical systems understand the meaning of dependent origination without distortion. For there are two types of dependent origination: dependent origination that distinguishes the nature of things, and dependent origination that distinguishes between pleasant and unpleasant migrations. The first is the way in which all external and internal phenomena arise from causes and conditions. The second is how the phenomena of the six internal sense bases, from what causes and conditions, enter the cycle of the five migrations. Among these, the outsiders are confused about the first dependent origination, and therefore assert causelessness and discordant causes. Confused about the second, they therefore grasp at a self such as the eater. The Vaibhashikas and Sautrantikas are confused about the first dependent origination, because the outsiders...
