All contaminated dharmas that arise in the continuum before the attainment of the path are the opposite of those to be abandoned by seeing. They are not abandoned merely by seeing the truth, but are abandoned by familiarizing oneself with what has been seen. Therefore, they are to be abandoned by meditation. Here, there are also three types of all-pervasive defilements: the co-emergent view of the perishable aggregate and the view of clinging to extremes, as well as attachment and anger that arise perversely towards objects, pride that arises perversely towards sentient beings, and the near defilements that are in accordance with them, and ignorance that is concordant with all of them, are the all-pervasive defilements of affliction. The actions of body and speech that are aroused by them in various direct and indirect ways are the all-pervasive defilements of action. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases of happy migrations are the all-pervasive defilements of birth. Among these, the first two all-pervasive defilements to be abandoned by seeing are only afflictive. Moreover, the former is for those who practice in the form and formless realms, and the latter is also for those who practice in the form realm, and is only obscured and unspecified. Both are also only unwholesome for those who practice in the desire realm. The third all-pervasive defilement, because it is the nature of maturation, is only obscured and unspecified. There is not even a little that belongs to virtue in these. The first all-pervasive defilement is included by all three realms. The second is included by the lower two realms. The last is only associated with the desire realm. The first of the all-pervasive defilements to be abandoned by meditation, those that belong to the upper realms, and the co-emergent views of the desire realm with their associated factors, are obscured and unspecified. The other afflictions that belong to the desire realm are unwholesome. The second all-pervasive defilement has all three, virtue and so on, while the last is only obscured and unspecified. The first and the last are included by all three realms. The intermediate is included by the lower two realms. Those to be abandoned by seeing will never arise again in the continuum once they have been abandoned. The all-pervasive defilements to be abandoned by meditation

Those, once abandoned, will not arise again. Virtuous and non-obscuring, non-declared phenomena may arise again, but because craving does not increase from them, they are called abandoned. These are the brief differences between the two types of what is to be abandoned, which will be discussed in detail later. One aspect of all phenomena is what is abandoned by sight and the abandoned uncontaminated. Through the method of perfecting meditation, what is to be abandoned by meditation as previously stated is abandoned. This is because the aggregates are impermanent, merely phenomena, and not suitable for a permanent self, therefore, the attachment to the appearance of a self perfected in meditation is abandoned. What is not to be abandoned are the uncontaminated phenomena, because they are without fault in every way and therefore are not to be destroyed by an antidote. That which is in accordance with the definitive aspect, the subsequent uncontaminated, although it does not belong to the uncontaminated that is not to be abandoned, is to be abandoned through meditation because it is connected to the suffering of contaminated existence. How is that? When one meditates on the virtuous that is in accordance with the definitive aspect, at that time, because there is also a mind of affliction, that virtuous is also bound by being grasped as self, therefore it is contaminated. It appears to be a mistake to recite and explain "ten realms and four sources" in the scriptures, because it contradicts the number of contaminated and uncontaminated things from before, and it is impossible for the five consciousness realms to be uncontaminated, because these natures are by nature outward-looking, so it is impossible to rely on the path. It is also to be examined that the commentary says that the actions of the body and speech of the non-learner are uncontaminated, so there are uncontaminated body form and sound realms, because the actions of the body transform into the form realm, which is nothing other than the manifestation of the body, and that is also the shape indicated by a part of the ripened body. In truth, it should be non-obscuring and non-declared, and contaminated, but not virtuous or uncontaminated. It has already been said that previously establishing the form and sound realms as virtuous and non-virtuous was merely an imputation due to necessity. Therefore, in some scriptures, the aggregates, the three realms, and the two sources
