Performing the act of offering flowers and the like. The virtue of benefiting others is: benefiting sentient beings with the four objects of gathering, namely, giving, kind speech, beneficial action, and acting in accordance with the meaning. Among these, giving is giving material objects such as food to those who desire food, and drink to those who desire drink. Kind speech is speaking of the six perfections. Beneficial action is causing others to practice the six perfections or the Dharma that is in accordance with them. Acting in accordance with the meaning is practicing oneself. The first gathers a retinue. The second tames. The third causes one to engage in following the meaning of the instructions. The fourth causes one to have faith in the one who tames. As it is said: Giving is equal to that, showing, receiving, and entering, kind speech and beneficial action, and oneself also entering accordingly, is known as the nature of acting in accordance with the meaning. As it is said. The virtue of holding the desired fruit is: the merit that arises from the discipline of giving, holding the gods and humans of the heavenly realm through the door of rebirth, as well as the wealthy who possess enjoyment and wealth, and the birth in noble lineages such as the royal family and the Brahmin caste, completely accomplishing the holding and purification of Nirvana and that which is in accordance with Nirvana. In short, it is the meaning of holding the fruits of higher realms and definite goodness. The virtue of acting as an antidote to what is to be abandoned is refutation and the like. Among these, the antidote of refutation is: viewing conditioned phenomena with outflows as faults, thereby refuting the aggregates that are closely taken up with the aspects of disease and fruit. The antidote of abandonment is purification and the path of non-interruption, because they abandon afflictions. The antidote of the basis is the path of liberation, because it holds the attainment of what has been abandoned. The antidote of lengthening the distance is the special path, because it lengthens the distance of the afflictions that have been abandoned before. The antidote of suppression is the worldly

way. Therefore, it only weakens the power of the afflictions to be abandoned, but cannot uproot the seeds. The antidote of separation is the path that transcends the world, because it can uproot the seeds to be abandoned. The antidote to the obscuration of afflictions is the path of realizing the selflessness of persons, because it can abandon the root of all obscurations of afflictions, which is the afflicted conceptualization. The antidote to the obscuration of knowledge is the path of realizing the selflessness of phenomena, because it abandons the root of the obscuration of knowledge, which is the attachment to grasping and being grasped. The virtue of the near pacification of what is to be abandoned is the abandonment of all afflictions such as desire, which is divided into two: the complete cessation of the feeling of the place of affliction and the cessation of the nature of affliction itself. The first is the absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling. The second is divided into two: the Nirvana of the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle. The first is divided into two by the difference between the aggregate of suffering not being pacified and being pacified. The first is the Nirvana with remainder, which means that because all afflictions have been abandoned, just like cutting off the head of a chariot axle, the branches of suffering of existence will not grow luxuriantly, so it is called Nirvana. However, because the fire of suffering caused by previous karma and afflictions has not been completely extinguished, it is called with remainder. The second is the realm of Nirvana without remainder, which is like a fire that has run out of firewood, the contaminated aggregates have all ceased, and because the activity of conditioned phenomena has ceased, the remainder of the aggregates should be known to be completely absent. The Specificists consider their nature to be established as permanent entities. The Sutra School considers it to be the non-affirming negation of the exhaustion of what is to be abandoned. In this Yogacara text, it is considered to be the nature of the completely pure Suchness. The first is distinguished by abandoning the origin of afflictions. The second is distinguished by the complete cessation of the contaminated aggregates. The second, the Nirvana of the Great Vehicle, is the Nirvana that does not abide in the two extremes of existence and peace.
