Regarding the statement "the past is not real," it is also necessary to investigate, and the answer remains the same as before. Therefore, if the past were real, it should not be subject to destruction. Furthermore, do tangible objects, past and future, exist in other places, or do they not exist? If the former is the case, then if the past and future Gangtise (referring to Mount Kailash) exist in the present land of Gangtise, it is contradictory for multiple tangible objects to exist in one place; if they do not exist, then another place where they exist must be shown, which is also impossible. Moreover, if the past and future exist in a place, then one tangible object that has been transmitted from beginningless time would pervade the entire expanse of space, so that other corporeal things would not find an opportunity. If the past and future do not exist in a place, then since the self-nature of these tangible objects such as mountains, houses, and dwellings does not exist in the past and future states, it is not reasonable to think that the substance of these things exists in the past and future. If they think that even though the tangible object itself does not exist in the past and future states, the substance exists, then since their own essence manifests in various places and corners, and no other substance of them is found, that is also unreasonable. Therefore, the statement that the past and future are real is unreasonable. The statement "because past actions produce results" is also not a valid proof, because it is not the past action itself that produces the present result, but when the action itself is established, the continuity of the habit that it has assigned is related to the mind-stream, and this is merely called the result of the past action. With this in mind, the Blessed One said, "Past actions exist." The statement "because there is cognition of the past and future" is also not a correct proof, because cognition of them is also seen to arise in unreal things such as dreams and images. Also, what is said in the sutras, such as "past form does not exist, present form exists, future form exists," etc.,

Considering that (things) have passed away, it is said that there is the past. Considering the nature of (things) themselves, it is said that there is the present. Considering that it is merely a cause, it is said that there is the future. Otherwise, as previously stated, it would be harmed by reasoning. Moreover, the Omniscient One would not say anything that would be harmed by reasoning. Therefore, the past and the future exist only as imputations, while the present exists as substance. This should be understood. Secondly, regarding the difference between whether the three times and nirvana are objects to be expressed: Why did the Bhagavan take the three times, such as the past, as the basis of discussion, but not nirvana? Because the dharmas included in the three times, such as the past, are the basis for what can be expressed by speech. Because they become objects of conceptual thought, and speech also follows conceptual thought. Nirvana is not something to be expressed by speech, because it is only to be realized by each individual yogi. Because it cannot be expressed to others through language in the same way as one experiences it oneself. That is, as experienced by yogis in meditative equipoise with transcendental wisdom, in the post-meditation state, no appearance arises in the conceptual thought that evokes all speech. The reason for this is that nirvana is the pacification of all elaborations, while conceptual thoughts arise in association with elaborations. Someone asks: Do self-characterized objects also not appear to conceptual thought? Why is it only nirvana that is inexpressible? Answer: Although these things do not directly appear to conceptual thought, they can be expressed by words because they appear in the conceptual thought that follows experience, just as they are experienced directly. Furthermore, nirvana is not a place for concepts such as the past that has occurred, the future that will occur, or seeing, hearing, and distinguishing. Here, nirvana is the naturally occurring nirvana, which is suchness, not nirvana with remainder or nirvana without remainder. Secondly, the three dharmas of virtue, etc., and things, and the way in which virtue, etc., are established by their teachings.
