meaning of. Birth, etc., are divided into eight categories. Briefly, arising exists as both past and present, because they have already arisen from causes and conditions. One aspect is the abandonment of the future and the unconditioned. When one knows that what arises from causes is not a substance but merely a dharma, one abandons attachment to the self. Furthermore, the aspects of arising are elaborately divided into twenty-four types, as follows: The first arising is the arising that occurs at the time of rebirth, when the connection of rebirth is made. Continuous arising is the arising that occurs from then until death. Increasing arising is sleep, food, celibacy, and meditative absorption, which arise from the four causes that cause the elements of the body to increase. Dependent arising is the internal faculties. Changing arising is when feelings such as happiness arise, and the faculties change in accordance with them. Fully ripening arising is the stage of aging. Declining arising is when one dies from a good rebirth and is reborn in a bad rebirth. Distinctive arising is the opposite of that. Luminous arising is when one is completely deceived by the gods, and when there are those who cause displeasure, illusory joy, and those who control the transformations of others, and those who practice in the form and formless realms, in order, for the sake of having more joy, enjoyment, and self-empowerment over the abiding of meditative stabilization. Non-luminous arising is those that are not that. Universally going arising is the arising that occurs in the state of going. Arising with seeds is all aggregates except for the final aggregates of an Arhat. Arising without seeds is the final aggregates of an Arhat. Arising for the sake of images, power, and certainty are, in order, the images that correspond to knowable objects such as skeletons, and the images of the realm of practice of those who meditate on liberation, and the images of the Tathagatas. Arising from one to one is arising that occurs through the continuity of lifetimes. Arising in a single moment is when all conditioned things arise and cease moment by moment. Meeting and separating arising are pleasant and unpleasant, and

What is it to be free from desire, or to have a mind with desire, and the state of being free from desire? The arising of fear and attachment refers to the state of the formation of the vessel world. What arises from death and rebirth refers to the state of mind, which is the death and birth of the world. What arises in other states refers to states such as flames, and what arises in states such as illness. What arises in the past is the existence of the past. What arises at the time of death is the existence of death. What arises in between is the existence of the intermediate state. What arises at the time of connection is the existence of birth. If it is said that it is the first arising and repetition, it is not so. Because it is said to be the first arising in terms of the birth existence of this life. Because this is said in terms of the birth existence of the future life. If one knows that what has not arisen is not produced by causes and conditions, but is merely dharma, then one can abandon the clinging to the self, thinking that I exist independently of causes and conditions. The others are easy to understand. Grasping refers to the material sense organs and the mind and mental phenomena, because they enjoy their own objects. The three aggregates are feeling, perception, and consciousness. One aspect of form and formation is the material sense organs and the corresponding formations, in order. The twelve sources are the five sense organs and the seven consciousnesses. The six sources are the internal sources. The aspect of the dharma realm and the sources are the mental phenomena. If one knows that grasping, which enjoys objects, is merely dharma, then one can abandon the clinging to the self, thinking that I am the enjoyer of objects. Furthermore, the detailed classification of grasping is: grasping without encountering the object is the eye, ear, and mind, because the mind is not material, and the eye and ear can perceive distant forms and sounds. Therefore, these three faculties are what yogis can accomplish supernormal powers with. Grasping by encountering the object is the nose, tongue, and body. These are one's own objects and faculties.
