Attachment is based on clinging, and that which is related to these through the six doors, such as their own nature, is what is relied upon by clinging. With what kind of hatred is there attachment to this? With hatred towards manifestation. Its own nature, etc., is explained as being like those with conflict. Both clinging and conflict are actually the three poisons of desire, so whatever is defiled, clinging is also obtained from that. If one knows that attachment to the five desirable qualities is merely dharma, then one abandons manifest clinging to it. Manifestation as a basis is the opposite of clinging, which is not related to the three poisons and the six doors that are the cause of attachment to desirable qualities; this is manifestation as a basis. The non-self nature of clinging, etc., is explained as being without conflict. In this regard, clinging that actually corresponds to attachment to desirable qualities is all the dharma that is practiced in the desire realm. Clinging that corresponds to the seed of clinging is also the two upper realms. Manifestation as a basis that is devoid of manifest clinging is the two upper realms. Manifestation as a basis that is devoid of the seed of clinging is only those who are without outflows. This principle should also be applied to those with conflict and those without conflict. Because it is based on manifestation as a basis that is devoid of the seed of clinging, it is said that whatever is without defilement. If one knows that being free from clinging is merely dharma, then one abandons clinging to it. Conditioned phenomena are those in which there is initially birth, which is the new arising of something that did not exist before; finally, cessation, which is the interruption of the continuum; in between, duration, in which the continuum continues to be connected; and the appearance of change, in which the former state is different from the latter state; these depend on causes and conditions, and are therefore called conditioned phenomena. One aspect of the realm of dharma and the sources of perception are those that have not been abandoned by conditioned phenomena. If one knows that impermanent conditioned phenomena, which depend on causes and conditions, are merely dharma, then one abandons clinging to them. In this regard, the Vaibhashikas believe that each moment of phenomena possesses all four characteristics, otherwise it would be an unconditioned phenomenon. In this regard, the four characteristics such as birth are different entities from the basis of the characteristics, otherwise one would be acting upon oneself.

Because of the contradiction, and also because not acting on the characterized object is also contradictory to the nature. For arising and so on, if there is no arising and ceasing and so on, then it would be an unconditioned dharma, therefore the nature of arising of arising and so on is also in accordance. For those, the distinction of the four characteristics of arising and so on is meaningless, because the characteristics of the root arising and so on can represent them as conditioned dharmas. Among them, the root arising, except for itself, has the function of leading from the future to the present for the root and subsequent characteristics and the characterized conditioned dharmas, while the arising of arising has the function of leading the arising itself from the future to the present. Similarly, the root impermanence, except for itself, causes the eight dharmas to change from the present to the past, while the impermanence of impermanence causes it itself to change from the root state to the past state. The root abiding causes the eight dharmas to abide as present objects, and that is what the abiding of abiding abides in. The root aging causes the eight dharmas to abide, and that is what the aging of aging decays, so it is thought. As it is said, those arising of arising and so on, exist in union with the eight dharmas. Here, these characteristics are calculated according to the continuum, not according to the moment, because for the moment, abiding and change are unreasonable. In addition, these arising and so on are how they are known in the world, and the Tathagata said that those are the characteristics of conditioned dharmas, because momentary arising and ceasing are not known in the world, and the world cannot realize the nature of conditioned dharmas from unknown characteristics. Therefore, as it is said: "Arising from nothing is called arising, the continuity exists and then ceases, the continuity is the difference between before and after, change is called different names." As it is said, it is reasonable for the continuum. From the characterized object, in reality, it is neither one entity nor multiple entities, because if impermanence and things are different entities, then things will become indestructible. It is one.
