What is the divine eye? Is it that which knows death and birth based on it? What is the direct perception of the divine eye like? It is knowing the categories of sentient beings, the good and the bad, that having died from here, they will take rebirth there and there in the future, this is called death and birth. Whatever pure form arises from the power of meditative concentration and is gathered by the ground of meditative equipoise, seeing such death and birth, or seeing all subtle and coarse forms, whether destined or not, is called the divine eye. What is the wisdom that, based on it, is similar to sense consciousness? It is the direct perception of knowing death and birth, and it is also called the direct perception of the divine eye. This divine eye also has three types: the divine eye obtained by birth, the divine eye born from karma, and the divine eye arising from meditation. These should be understood as explained in relation to the divine ear. The first two do not see the form of the intermediate state, therefore they do not know death and birth. What is the exhaustion of defilements? What is the direct perception of knowing it like? It is the complete cutting off of all bonds, which is called the exhaustion of defilements. That which completely cuts off and knows it with the worldly knowledge of cessation and non-arising is called the direct perception of the exhaustion of defilements. All these six are worldly because they are by nature conventional knowledge. The first five, which exist in the minds of children and learners, are with defilements. Those that exist in the minds of non-learners are solely without defilements. The sixth is a quality that arises in the minds of non-learners, therefore it is solely without defilements. Among these, the first three are only direct perception and not wisdom. The latter three are both direct perception and wisdom, because they are the antidote to the ignorance of the three times. When the yogi who possesses these is in the right time, it is called direct perception by showing it, or abiding in it, or universally benefiting others, or asking questions and answering questions about it. Among these, the first makes those who do not have faith have faith by showing various miracles, and makes those who already have faith increase their respect and reverence. The second is to make others

Knowing whether the actions of speech are virtuous or non-virtuous, thereby encouraging and praising them. Thirdly, fully knowing the mental processes of others, whether virtuous or non-virtuous, thereby giving good instruction. The last three, in sequence, abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation, and without arrogance regarding the exhaustion of defilements, skillfully explain and instruct the Middle Way. Upon what do these superknowledges rely to be accomplished? The first five rely solely on the actual mind of the four dhyanas, and not on others, because the access concentrations have too little shamatha, and the formless concentrations have too little vipashyana, so they are not suitable as a basis for accomplishing special qualities. The last three rely on the six dhyanas and the first three formless concentrations, because it is possible to attain the fruit of an Arhat by relying on them. As for the physical basis, the first five are accomplished by humans of the three continents and gods of the desire realm. The last three are accomplished by relying on all three realms. All of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas are also objects of the last three superknowledges. They are to be made manifest. A yogi who possesses these is called one with power. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: Birth, speech, and mind, virtuous and non-virtuous arise, Their dwelling place and arising are manifest, Knowing all the various distinctions, It is the power of obtaining unobstructed teaching. As it is said. Thereafter, knowing that the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, together with superknowledge, are merely phenomena, one abandons attachment to the self as having power and superknowledge, as well as attachment to the path and superknowledge as objects of knowledge. Among the six divisions of form, etc., there are two divisions: the division of actual form and the division of common reality and imputation. In order, these are the first two and the remainder. Looking outward, etc., is a division of form that has been apprehended. The others are common to both apprehended and unapprehended. From the distinction between meditative equipoise and non-equipoise, the two, outward appearance and inward appearance, are established. From the non-manifest boundary of the latter, long duration is established. From its manifestation, complete cessation of time and its time are established. These are also arising.
