In this way, because the mind apprehends objects and realms of experience by manifesting them with the mind, consciousness is able to approach them. Thirdly, furthermore, depending on the order of being defiled by afflictions such as attachment and purified by faith and so on, they are arranged in order. Like this, the basis for both affliction and purification is the body with its faculties. Therefore, the skandha of form is explained first. By what action is affliction and purification made possible? Therefore, after the skandha of form, the three skandhas of feeling and so on are explained. Because affliction and purification are made possible through experiencing contaminated or uncontaminated states, attending properly or improperly, and apprehending characteristics and manifestly apprehending. What is the nature of affliction and purification? That is consciousness. Because the mind arises in a defiled or undefiled state. Therefore, the skandha of consciousness is explained last. The reason for explaining the five skandhas in that order is like this. In order to explain the order of the elements (dhātus), the phrase "the elements" and so on is stated. The elements are arranged in an order that is in accordance with worldly conventions. Like this, in the world, people initially look at forms with their eyes, so the element of the eye is explained first. Depending on looking at forms mutually, people commonly say "the element of pleasure" and so on. Also, in order to hear the sound of speech, the ear faculty is used, so the element of the ear is explained after the eye element. After completing the activity of the element of pleasure, the body and limbs are washed with bathing, anointed with fragrant scents, and enjoyed with the nose faculty through fragrant flower garlands and so on, so the element of the nose is explained after the ear element. In all situations where activities such as looking take place, it is the element of mind that has discrimination, so the element of mind is explained after the nose element. Based on the order of the internal elements, the order of the external elements such as form is arranged in this way. Because objects are accomplished through the power of the faculties. The elements of consciousness arise from the elements of the faculties and objects as their cause.

Therefore, for this reason, after it, the realm of consciousness is shown in order. Just as the order of the realms is shown in accordance with worldly terms, it should be understood that the order of the sources is also shown in accordance with worldly terms. The meaning of order has been shown. Now, the meaning of the terms aggregates, realms, and sources will be shown. First, wanting to show the meaning of aggregates, so it is said, "What is the meaning of the term 'aggregate'?" Here, there are also three, among which the word 'aggregate' is shown to mean accumulation: Whatever is form, whatever has the nature of form, such as being divided by the difference of time into the three, past, etc., divided by the difference of continuum into internal and external, in order, belonging to one's own continuum and form different from it. Divided by the difference of form into coarse and subtle, in order, with obstruction and without obstruction. Divided by the difference of destination into bad and excellent, in order, the form of bad and good destinies. Divided by the difference of place into distant and near, all these are summarized as "form," because they are accumulated in one direction by the mind, it is called the aggregate of form, just as in the world many possessions are accumulated in one place and called the aggregate of possessions. The same should be observed for the aggregates up to the aggregate of consciousness, that is, according to their coarse and subtle order, taking the feelings that rely on the colored sense organs and rely on the mind, and so on. Or, based on the objects of the eleven kinds of craving, the past, etc., of form, etc., should be distinguished. That is, craving that looks like this, craving that is manifestly joyful, craving that is particularly attached, craving for self, craving for objects, craving for desire, craving for absorption, craving for the suffering of misdeeds, craving for the merit of good deeds, craving for distance, craving for proximity. The objects of these cravings should be combined with the past, etc., in order. Another classification is the difference between what has arisen and what has not arisen, and
