The three suchness are such because their essence is inseparable, except for the mere difference in their subjects. Their essence, categories, and so on, are all one. The essence of space is that it is without obstructive form, and merely by being a negation, it becomes an object of the mind's consciousness. The definitive word is 'space' because it opens up all the actions, arising, going, and so on, of embodied beings. If you ask, 'Doesn't the absence of a thing mean that it has no power to reveal other things?' The answer is no. Wherever something is present, there is an opportunity for another form to arise, and wherever something is not perceived, there is no such opportunity. It is merely in this sense that we use the term 'revealing'. And space is like that: space is completely open because it obstructs obstructive forms. Wherever there is no obstructive thing, there is an opportunity for form to arise, and if there is no space, then this is not the case, because an obstructive thing blocks the opportunity in that place. Therefore, space is the nature of opening up opportunities, and therefore it is not the agent of opening up, nor does it possess the action of opening up. Therefore, space is merely the opener of the opportunity for the arising of forms of fruit, but it has no power to generate other distinctions, and therefore it is not something that will arise. The cessation that is obtained not by the power of wisdom analyzing reality, but by the lack of causes and conditions, is the object to be negated, which is prevented by the power of some lacking causes and conditions, and is not permanently separated because the seed has not been destroyed by an antidote. For example, when the mind is attached to the form of a blue lotus, even though other forms and other objects such as sounds are nearby, the sense consciousnesses that perceive them do not arise at that time because they have obtained a cessation that is not due to analysis. Why do those sense consciousnesses obtain a cessation that is not due to analysis at that time? If attention were present, then at that time, other sense consciousnesses that perceive the forms other than the blue lotus and the objects such as sounds that are nearby would also arise, because all the causes other than attention are present without being deficient. Even so, at that time, their attention...

Because the causes and conditions are incomplete, it does not arise; merely not arising is termed as obtaining cessation. However, because the antidote that eliminates the seed has not arisen, it is not therefore permanently separated. Whatever does not arise because all causes and conditions are incomplete is not non-analytical cessation, because things that are inherently nonexistent, such as rabbit horns, would also consequently obtain non-analytical cessation. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to obtain cessation when the object to be eliminated is not apparent. Therefore, it is the cessation of those phenomena whose own causes and conditions are partially complete and partially incomplete that is obtained. Moreover, this is with regard to future phenomena, not past or present phenomena, because they have already arisen. It is with regard to those that belong to the continuum of sentient beings, not those that do not. Furthermore, it is only with regard to those that belong to one's own continuum, not those that belong to the continuum of others. Whatever dharma obtains analytical or non-analytical cessation, both of these are similar in that they are phenomena that never arise again, but there is a difference between separation and non-separation due to the difference between the antidote destroying the seed and not destroying the seed. The cessation to be obtained by the wisdom of analytical cessation, the uninterrupted path to truth, is that which is eliminated by the power of the arising antidote, and is permanently separated because the seed has been destroyed. This is only with regard to those that belong to the continuum of sentient beings, not those that do not, and only with regard to future phenomena, not past or present phenomena. It is with regard to that which is contaminated, not that which is uncontaminated. It is only with regard to that which is afflicted, not that which is unobscured and unspecified or virtuous, because those are abandoned merely by detachment from desire, and in the continuum of those abandoned, they arise again because the seed has not been destroyed. Therefore, only those who have destroyed the seed of affliction by the supramundane path are called analytical cessation, not those who are separated by the mundane path, because it does not have the power to destroy the seed. However, those are merely nominal cessation or imputed cessation. Whatever dharma is, is analytical cessation...
