In short, there are two aspects of the lineage of the noble path: as the condition of the object and as the condition of the cause. The first is the naturally pure Dharmadhatu, which, when meditated upon by taking either of the two forms of selflessness as its object, gives rise to the noble paths of the three vehicles. Therefore, it is also said here, "Why is it called Dharmadhatu? Because it is the cause of the Dharma of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas." This, being free from all obscurations, is included in the enumeration of the Dharmakaya of the Tathagatas, and is said to possess the essence of the Tathagata. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras, "The Suchness is in all, although there is no difference, it is pure. It is the very Tathagata, therefore all beings possess its essence." And as it is also said in the Uttaratantra, "The body of the complete Buddha is because it can produce, and because Suchness is undifferentiated, and because it has lineage, all sentient beings constantly possess the Buddha-essence." It is just as it is said. That itself is also called the naturally abiding lineage, because, as mentioned before, it is the cause of the noble Dharma, and it is not created by conditions, but exists from the very beginning. The condition that becomes the cause is the undefiled seed that exists in the Alaya, abiding by the Dharma nature. That itself is also called the habit of hearing, also called the distinction of the six sense bases, and also called the lineage that will grow. Why is it called the habit of hearing? Because the similar cause of realizing the extremely pure Dharmadhatu must be nourished by the condition of hearing the Dharma of the scriptures, therefore it is called the habit of hearing. For example, the Alaya itself has the ability to produce desirable or undesirable results from the very beginning, and it is made powerful by the cause of good or non-virtue, just as it is called the habit of good or non-virtue. This is not something to be newly created by the condition of hearing, even if the Hearer, the solitary practitioner of peace, only hears the Dharma of the Great Vehicle from the Tathagata, it will plant the habit of hearing the Great Vehicle in that (Hearer)'s continuum.

And also transforms. If so, since those have the lineage of the Great Vehicle's growth, it is not appropriate to be just a solitary practitioner of peace. Therefore, the sutra also says that the lineage of the Bodhisattvas is the distinction of the six elements, obtained by the nature of reality, and has come down through the lineage from beginningless time. Why is it called the distinction of the six elements? Because this distinguishes the inner six elements that are the basis for establishing the term "sentient being," therefore it is called the distinction of the six elements. How does it distinguish? For those who, by hearing the profound and vast Dharma, increase the habit of hearing, that is called the Great Vehicle lineage. For the inner six elements that focus on the meaning of existence, they are called having the Buddha lineage of the Great Vehicle, but not the Hearer lineage or the Solitary Realizer lineage. For those who, by hearing the Dharma that shows the benefits of Nirvana and the faults of Samsara, etc., and the path of liberation alone, increase the habit of hearing, that is called the Lesser Vehicle lineage. And for the inner six elements that are the object, they are called the Hearer or the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, or the lineage of those. Why is it called growth? Because this is nourished by conditions, and grows from small to medium, and from medium to large. As it is said: "Therefore, relying on small habits, it becomes medium habits. Relying on medium habits, it becomes large habits, because it has the cause of hearing, thinking, and meditating many times." It is like what was said. Furthermore, this stainless seed of the distinction of the six elements is also divided into two: naturally existing from beginningless time, and the correct appropriation of conditions. The first of these is the stainless seed that exists by the nature of reality in a state where it has not been nourished by the cause of hearing. The second is that which is nourished by the cause of hearing.

has been established, and what is the state of becoming increased? Some would say that these are, in order, the naturally abiding and the lineage of growth. This needs to be examined, because like this, the former is also like that, it is not that it cannot be changed by conditions, but through the nourishment of conditions such as hearing, it increases from higher to higher, and ultimately has the power to actually produce transcendental wisdom. Therefore, if this also becomes increased by conditions like the latter, then why not say increased? If this is something that cannot be increased by conditions, then how can this become the lineage of the noble path? Because it does not produce any difference to the noble path. If suchness becomes the cause of the noble path through the door of the object, then this is not like that either. If this does not depend on the nourishment of conditions, but becomes the condition for the cause of the noble path, then, at that time, the noble path will also arise without hearing etc. preceding, so the second lineage is also meaningless. If even if it becomes different through conditions, it is not called growth, then, at that time, what other reason is there to say that the second is the lineage of growth? If it is said that the former is abiding by the nature of things, and the latter is newly obtained through conditions, then, precisely because of this, have I not also said that for these in order, the former is naturally abiding, and the latter is truly obtained through conditions? I am not denying that the former is naturally abiding and the latter is also growing, but I am denying saying that the former is not growing. Therefore, the former is naturally abiding because it has been abiding by the nature of things since beginningless time, and it is also growing because it is nourished by conditions and increases from higher to higher. Thus, the habits of hearing, the seeds of non-outflow, the differences of the six sense bases, among those that are said, some are naturally determined to be the condition for the cause of the Mahayana path, some are the path of the Hearers, and some are
