Furthermore, this is not logical, because consciousness does not depend on the body, and the body does not depend on consciousness. If a part of the body is considered "I," then it has warmth; if it is not considered so, then it loses warmth. If this is the case, then even in some living states, warmth would be lost, because it has already been said that consciousness always regards the body as "I" and "mine." If warmth is not lost merely because consciousness exists, then as long as the last breath has not stopped, and consciousness exists, warmth would not disappear either, which is also illogical, because warmth has been seen to disappear before that. It cannot be said that warmth gradually disappears due to the gradual exhaustion of karma. Because, we must examine whether the gradual disappearance of warmth is due to the consciousness that holds the body gradually abandoning the body due to the exhaustion of karma, or whether it is due to some other reasons. If the alaya-consciousness exists, then how is it possible? All senses depend on it. Therefore, whichever part of the senses, due to the complete exhaustion of karma, causes the matured consciousness to become incompatible with life, that part and the cessation of that part's senses cause warmth to disappear. In this way, when all the senses are completely lost, the entire body will lose warmth, which is acceptable. This is only for those who acknowledge the existence of external objects. For those who consider knowledge to be internal, when the alaya-consciousness arises as appearing throughout the entire body, the entire body is grasped. When some parts of the body appear as "I" and some parts appear as external objects, then the part that appears as "I" is grasped, and those parts that have the form of external objects lose warmth because they are not grasped. This is quoted from the *Meaning-Secret Differentiation Treatise*. But this does not seem logical. For example, if the loss of warmth in a part of the body is due to it becoming an external object to the alaya-consciousness, then when the entire body loses warmth, the alaya-consciousness must appear as the entire body being an external object.

This is also unreasonable, because the alaya-consciousness of this life also ceases and disappears together with the body's senses. The alaya-consciousness of another birth and another person does not hold or abandon this present body. Therefore, I understand this meaning in a different way, namely, that these material senses such as the eye are the very nature of the ripening consciousness that is completely possessed by each of them, because they arise from the same karma and afflictions that cause them to be drawn forth and accomplished. Therefore, the ripening consciousness and the body's senses, etc., are one in accomplishment and pleasure, and when that ceases, they also cease. Among them, some ripening consciousnesses that hold the body arise all at once at birth, and also cease all at once when the previous drawing forth is exhausted, as in the case of the ripening of spontaneously born beings, so it is said that the senses of spontaneously born beings also cease all at once at birth. Some ripening consciousnesses gradually perfect their parts at birth, and also gradually cease when the drawing forth of karma is exhausted, as in the case of the ripening of those born from wombs, eggs, moisture, and heat. Therefore, their senses are gradually perfected and gradually cease. Among them, as long as the drawing forth of karma is not exhausted, the ripening consciousness itself completely transforms into the form of the body's senses, and follows from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head, so it is said that all parts of the body are warm and possessed by mind. The ripening consciousness of those who do good and evil, which is completely transformed into the form of the body's senses, when the drawing forth of karma is exhausted, it first ceases from the crown of the head or the soles of the feet, and at that time the term "the body's senses cease" is applied from that place, and when the body's senses cease, the warmth disappears. Thus, the body and the senses such as the eye

When all the ripened consciousnesses that are the complete transformation of those with form gradually cease, it is called the cessation of all faculties, and the term "death" is applied. If the faculties are the complete transformation of ripened consciousness, and when it ceases, they also cease, then the external vessel world is also its complete transformation, and when it ceases, it should also cease like the faculties, is that so? That is not so. For example, if there are many oil lamps in a room made of sesame oil, mustard oil, and other oils and wicks that are different, only one clear light will appear outside. One cannot distinguish and say, "This is the light of the sesame oil lamp," or "This is the light of the mustard oil lamp." When the causes such as sesame oil are exhausted, the lamps that arise in dependence on them will cease, but the light outside does not cease. When all the causes are exhausted and all the lamps cease, then all the light outside will also cease. Similarly, the ripened consciousnesses accomplished by various different karmas and afflictions are like many lamps that appear as the essence of embodied beings, and then an external vessel world like light will appear. When the oil and wick of the lamp are exhausted, and the karmic and afflictive forces are exhausted, the ripened consciousnesses like lamps that arise from those causes will cease, but the external vessel world will not cease, because it is not produced solely by them. If all such ripened consciousnesses cease, then the vessel world will also cease, just as when all the lamps cease, the light also ceases. Therefore, when the sentient being world is destroyed, the vessel world will also be destroyed. Therefore, the ripened consciousnesses like lamps and the form and tactile objects of the lamps are like the form faculties of the body, and the light is like the external vessel world, so they are not the same. Thus, the unreasonableness of the three kinds of pervasive defilements has been explained. Now, to explain the completely purified...
