The question about feeling ends here. The answer is: The characteristic of feeling is experience. What does experience mean here? Does it refer to the object or to self-experience? In either case, all minds and mental factors belong to feeling, and there is no other possibility, because the object of consciousness's experience is nothing other than oneself or the object. If someone asks: The Vaibhashikas believe that what is experienced is the image of touch. What is the essence of experience here? Through what does one experience the ripening of the virtuous and non-virtuous results of contaminated karma, the joy, suffering, or neither of the two, each experienced separately and without mixing, is considered the meaning of experience. The object of experience, the nature of ripening joy, suffering, and neutrality, is not a different entity from the experiencer's feeling. If according to the first statement, why can't other consciousnesses that are the same as feeling and object experience? Why is it that only feeling is considered to experience? If according to the second statement, it is contradictory for oneself to act on oneself, so it is unreasonable. If someone thinks: Yogis can also experience the joy and suffering in the continuum of others by contemplating the suffering and happiness of others, so the first view should not be accepted. Therefore, the experiencer himself arises as the nature of joy and suffering, so it is said that it is experienced through it. In the Pramanavarttika it is also said: The object is similar to things, and also similar to things, self-manifestation is self-experience. Therefore, other minds and mental factors are not experience, because they have not arisen as the nature of joy and suffering. And those that arise as joy, suffering, etc. are considered to be experience. If it is said that aren't there also some feelings of happiness and suffering that arise from the power of the object? Then, why is it said that experiencing the ripening of karma is feeling? Indeed, but feeling is mainly experiencing ripening. Or, in order to eliminate the doubt that the experience of object or touch etc. is feeling, it is said that experiencing ripening. In order to eliminate the doubt that joy and suffering etc. are experienced by one experiencer, it is said separately. The third question about the characteristic of the aggregate of perception is: What is perception? The answer is: The three of object, sense, and consciousness gather together as cause and effect, recognizing the name and characteristics of the object, and making distinctions.

The characteristic of recognition is ideation. A sign is what, by being made a reason, becomes the cause for applying various names to phenomena and persons. For example, seeing certain shapes of clay, such as a bulging belly, one applies the name "pot." Similarly, seeing certain characteristics of living beings, such as flesh bulging on the neck and skin hanging on the throat, one applies the name "cow." If those signs, such as a bulging belly and blackness, are not determined by the eye consciousness that grasps the color of the pot and the cow, how does ideation grasp them? It is not the case, because the signs such as a bulging belly are the distinctions of the object, while consciousness only determines the essence of the object, not the distinctions, because it would become indistinguishable from mental factors. These reasons will be analyzed in detail below. In short, these phenomena of defilement and purification each have a unique characteristic that is different from others; otherwise, everything would become of one taste, and there would be the fault of not being able to distinguish subtle differences. That unique characteristic of each is called a sign, because by making it a reason, one applies a unique name that distinguishes it from other things. If that sign is not completely determined by knowledge, then it is not appropriate to apply its similar name, and from the name it can also be established that there is knowledge that determines its similar sign, and that knowledge is also called ideation. If both feeling and ideation are similarly born from the aggregation of object, sense faculty, and consciousness, then why is it said "aggregate" when showing the characteristic of ideation, but not for feeling? Ideation is distinguished by grasping signs, and signs are the phenomena of the object, and knowing it also depends on the aggregation of object, sense faculty, and consciousness, so it is said "aggregate." Feeling is distinguished by experiencing the ripening, and the ripening to be experienced is also the nature of the experiencer itself, so it is a phenomenon of grasping, not a phenomenon of the object, so it was not said that way. Doing that
