It should be known. Among these, firstly, if there is no ālaya-vijñāna (store consciousness), then consciousness arising from the condition of action is not possible. For example, regarding consciousness, whether it is merit or non-merit, and the karmas of immovability, the consciousness that is imbued with the corresponding habitual imprints, if that is called consciousness arising from the condition of action, then the entering consciousnesses, etc., are not suitable as the basis for the habitual imprints of action, as has been answered many times. Therefore, the ālaya-vijñāna, which serves as the basis for the habitual imprints imbued by meritorious and other actions, exists. Otherwise, it is not reasonable to call it consciousness arising from the condition of action. If there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then existence arising from the condition of grasping is also not possible. For example, the habitual imprints imbued by actions are nourished by grasping, and it manifests as rebirth. If that is called existence, then according to the previously stated reasoning, if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, the habitual imprints imbued by actions also do not exist. Therefore, how can existence, characterized by manifesting rebirth through the condition of grasping, be possible? Therefore, if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then existence arising from the condition of grasping is not possible. Thus, through these two reasons, it is shown that if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then both the projecting karma and the manifesting and accomplishing karma are not possible, thereby showing that the afflictions of karma are not possible. Now, it will be explained that if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then the afflictions of life are not reasonable. This should also be understood through the impossibility of taking birth and the impossibility of death. And the impossibility of taking birth can be understood through three aspects: the impossibility of taking rebirth in a non-meditative state, the impossibility of taking rebirth in a meditative state, and the analysis of the distinctions in the formless realm. Firstly, it is further understood through the impossibility of taking rebirth, the impossibility of the already joined faculties remaining, the impossibility of consciousness entering, the impossibility of mutual dependence, and the impossibility of the food of consciousness.

Oh. If there is no ālaya-vijñāna, then it is not possible to take rebirth in the mother's womb when not in samāhita. Because the entering consciousnesses cannot connect rebirth, and other consciousnesses do not accept it either. If, among the entering consciousnesses, the sense consciousnesses cannot connect rebirth, but the mind consciousness can connect rebirth. For example, when the mind consciousness that is to be born in the womb in the desire realm is in the intermediate state, the mind consciousness with the aspect of attachment and anger towards either the father or the mother, that afflicted mind consciousness connects rebirth in the place of birth. That afflicted mind consciousness ceases together with the intermediate state, and the second moment of its continuum faints together with the soft substance of the mixture of the father's and mother's sperm and blood in the mother's womb. This is the nature of vipāka. Those schools that do not accept the ālaya-vijñāna say this. To this, it should be said that if the fainting consciousness is the nature of vipāka, then it must continue uninterrupted until the end of life. Otherwise, the vipāka will be interrupted, and because of the connection, it will lead to repeated death and rebirth in one lifetime. In that case, since the nature of the fainting mind consciousness is always present, when attachment arises in the womb, and later the mind consciousness with the aspect of anger, whether virtuous or non-virtuous, arises, then two mind consciousnesses will arise simultaneously. This is also unreasonable. Because it contradicts the sūtra that says, "Two minds arising simultaneously, there is no place or opportunity for that," and it is not accepted. If it is said that the fainting mind consciousness and the mind consciousness with the nature of virtue or non-virtue are of the same nature, that cannot be said either. Because the nature of the object and the aspect being completely uninterrupted and interrupted are different.
