Secondly, it is explained from the perspective of the aspect of fruition. It is constant and uninterrupted, therefore it is in accordance with the self. Because of its power, the afflicted mind arises as having the aspect of self. If the alaya consciousness, which sentient beings cling to as self, why doesn't it also change into the five aggregates of close grasping? Because for those, the coemergent view of self, which is similar to the consciousness, only occasionally clings to the self, but not constantly. Because the consciousness sometimes ceases. But for the alaya consciousness, except for the three instances of the afflicted mind and the coemergent view of self, in all cases it clings to the reality of self, therefore it is not the same. Why is it called the fruition consciousness? Because it is the nature of the complete maturation of the karmic imprints accumulated in the past. Like this, if there is a nature that is constant and uninterrupted from birth to death, and is obscured and unspecified, that can be considered fruition, then that can only be the alaya consciousness, and not others. Why does fruition need a nature that is constant and uninterrupted from birth to death? If, like the entering consciousness, it sometimes ceases and then arises again, then that is produced by the conditions of this life, and not propelled by the force of previous karma. Those propelled by karma should naturally continue as long as the force of that karma's propulsion is not exhausted. For example, like an arrow shot, it will not fall to the ground as long as the force is not exhausted. Fruition is also not interrupted and then reconnected, because if the propelling force is not exhausted, it will not be interrupted, and if it is exhausted, like an arrow with exhausted force, it has no power to arise again. If other different karma's fruitions connect? If that is the case, it is a subsequent birth, and not that multiple different fruitions mature in one birth. Therefore, fruition should be constant and uninterrupted from birth to death. Why is fruition obscured and unspecified? If the fruition of previously done virtuous or non-virtuous karma is also virtuous

If it becomes virtuous or afflicted, abiding in the fruition of virtue, since the continuum remains in a virtuous state from birth to death, there is no opportunity to generate attachment and all other afflictions, and therefore there is no need to strive for antidotes to eliminate them. Virtuous deeds arise naturally, so there is no need to strive to accomplish them either. Similarly, for those who abide in the fruition of non-virtue, as long as it exists, the fruition of non-virtue will naturally abide in its own nature, so there is no opportunity for antidotes to enter, and there is no way to abandon all afflictions. In this way, beings will completely abide in two extremes, that is, some beings abide only in virtue, and others abide only in non-virtue. Among them, those who abide only in virtue do not need to abandon non-virtue, nor do they need to accomplish virtue. And those who abide completely in non-virtue cannot accomplish virtue, nor can they abandon non-virtue. Therefore, in any case, engaging in acceptance and rejection becomes meaningless. The Compendium of Mahayana also says that if the fruition becomes virtuous or non-virtuous, all afflictions will not be eliminated. Therefore, it is reasonable for the fruition to be only obscured and unspecified. Why is it called the grasping consciousness? Because it causes the body that has not been obtained to be obtained, and it causes the body that has already been obtained to abide. Why does it cause the body that has not been obtained to be obtained? Because it connects the intermediate state of existence to the state of birth. Why does it cause the body that has already been obtained to abide? Because from birth to death, due to the support of the alaya consciousness, the sense faculties with form do not perish and are able to exist. Why is it called the place of knowable objects? Because it becomes the place of the characteristics, self-nature, and essence of knowable objects, because easily realizing these three characteristics depends on understanding it. There is also scriptural evidence for this, in the "Explanation of the Intention Sutra": The grasping consciousness is deep and subtle, all seeds flow like a river, it is not permissible to grasp it as self.
