If it is said that the names and words heard are not treatises, because they do not arise from the power of hearing the collection of letters of the treatise's author. If that is the case, then the treatise would only serve the purpose of the author's own direct disciples, and not for later disciples. Then, the collection of the Buddha's teachings done by the Tathagata, as well as composing treatises, recording them in books, etc., would all become meaningless? This fault does not exist, because in this way, the collection of letters used by the second expounder to explain the treatise is not made by the second expounder. What is it then? It is made by the first expounder, the author of the treatise himself. From there, after hearing the collection of letters as it is, through recollection, the second expounder is able to explain these collections of letters without confusion. Otherwise, the collection of letters cannot be explained in the order in which the treatise author arranged them. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika, "Through propagation, other treatises, from other paths than oral instructions, what recitation is seen?" Therefore, the treatise authors only newly arrange the difference in the order of letters, but do not newly create the essence of letters, because letters exist from beginningless time before the treatise author. Moreover, the material essence of letters does not exist from the beginning without changing, because then the effort of the tongue and palate, etc., would become meaningless. It is also not the case that only the category does not exist from the beginning, because if letters had an author, then before that, letters would not exist, and then the expression of words would be interrupted. Therefore, since the expression of words is beginningless, letters are also beginningless. The mistaken basis for outsiders believing that sound is created by Brahma and is permanent is also this. Because the treatise authors, newly arrange the order of letters, therefore, reciting the letters without confusion according to the order in which the author arranged them is the author himself.

It depends on this, and when other people also recite the letters without confusing the order as arranged by the author, they obtain the name "reciting the treatise composed by so-and-so." Similarly, when ordinary people read the words of the Sugata in the scriptures, reading the order of the letters in that way is no different from the order of letters spoken by the Buddha in the past, so they obtain the name "reading the words of the Buddha." The order of the letters was arranged by the Buddha, so it also obtains the name "words of the Buddha." Thus, the actual treatise that clarifies the meaning of what people should adopt or reject is the words and phrases related to the listener's intelligence, and the basis for establishing these words and phrases is the collection of letters arranged by the author of the treatise, which has a special order. This is called the flawless establishment of the nature of a treatise. Ordinary being: refers to the mindstream of sentient beings who have not attained the undefiled path of the Dharma of the Noble Ones. Entering: does not refer to a single moment or the cessation of the mindstream, but rather refers to the continuous entering of cause and effect without interruption, even for a moment. Separate determination: refers to the fact that the cause of desired results is good conduct. The cause of undesired results is misconduct, and so on, referring to the fact that cause and effect are separate and distinct. Connection: such as generosity leading to abundant resources, refers to the effect arising in accordance with the cause. Swiftness: refers to the rapid arising of cause and effect without interruption. Order: does not refer to cause and effect arising simultaneously, but rather to them arising one by one. Time: refers to the fact that when cause and effect continuously arise, what has arisen and ceased is called the past, what has a cause but has not yet arisen is called the future, and what has arisen but has not ceased is called the present. Place: refers to the fact that in all ten directions, such as the east, there are causes and effects of form. It is not so for formless phenomena, because they cannot pervade the directions. Number refers to conditioned phenomena
