In order to completely destroy those forms of affliction and their seeds, for those forms of affliction for which antidotes have not arisen, because they possess their seeds, they are considered to possess. Having mastery refers to: the virtues arising from practice, and also among those that are not specified, some, such as the arts and the mind of emanation, are called having mastery. Although they already have seeds, if the seeds are not fully matured through the cause of effort, they cannot be manifested effortlessly. What are those virtues that arise from practice? They are the worldly contemplations with aspects of peace and grossness, and the supramundane contemplations with aspects of truth, and with the nature of non-discrimination, and the qualities based on them, the eight liberations, the samadhi such as the heroic conduct, and the samapatti such as cessation. Co-emergent possession is easy to understand. Second, the possession of inferior beings: For those beings who have cut off the root of virtue with wrong views, it can also be said that they possess the seeds of virtuous dharmas, because when the correct view arises again, it can be connected. It can also be said that they do not possess, because wrong views have weakened the power of the seeds of virtue. Those with great desire, whose nature is not to pass beyond suffering, who only desire samsara and do not seek liberation, are always possessed by all afflictions such as desire, because for them, there is no opportunity for the path of liberation to arise as an antidote to all afflictions, because they do not possess the seed of the unpolluted, which is the cause of liberation. Therefore, they are forever without the cause of liberation. In the commentary, what is the cause of liberation? It is the presence of the negative tendencies of affliction in the Tathagatagarbha. If a continuum finds a condition that is in accordance with the antidote, and is able to destroy it well, then it is said to have good fortune, and is therefore called a cause. The opposite is said to be without a cause. However, the cause of liberation is the unpolluted seed, which has already been explained in detail. The Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, etc.

Some sutras and treatises, such as the Ornament of the Sutras, speak of things that do not enter nirvana because those who harbor hatred towards the Mahayana and other teachings are far from the path of liberation. Due to their hatred, they do not enter nirvana for a long time, so it is said with other situations in mind. However, it is not reasonable that they will never enter nirvana, because they have no reason not to abandon their afflictions. Therefore, in the explanation of the Uttaratantra, it is also said: "Though without beginning, it has an end; the nature is pure; the constant dharma is unseen due to the unobstructed shell; just as the form of gold is obscured." All citations of these as sources are to prove that everything has the potential to be transformed into complete purity. The benefit of being skilled in possession is that one can understand the ways in which things flourish and decline, because that is the benefit of possession. Knowing this, one will not be attached to the certainty that worldly bodies and the fullness of enjoyment will always prosper and increase, or that they will always decline and diminish, and thus one will abandon attachment to fullness and anger towards decline. From the Extensive Commentary on the Abhidharma-samuccaya, called The Ocean of Good Explanation, the Explanation of the first chapter of the Samuccaya, called the Compendium of Characteristics, is complete.
