Therefore, the attainment of cessation of perception and feeling also becomes non-conceptual, because there, the mind and the mental elaborations that arise from the mind are pacified. Therefore, it is said that there is no consciousness. In accordance with these, in the root and commentary of the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, what is the point of denying that the cessation attainment is non-conceptual wisdom? Therefore, this is merely one's own bias, and there is not even a little bit of scriptural or logical proof. Furthermore, if this is a non-conceptual samadhi, then when abiding in this, one must acknowledge the mind consciousness. If that is the case, then in the Thirty Verses, the arising of mind consciousness is: Always without perception and, the two that are in meditative absorption, mindless sleep and fainting, except for these. Thus, it is contradictory to what is said that in these five instances of the attainment of non-perception, the non-perceiver, mindless sleep, and fainting, mind consciousness does not arise. This bad system, even in the Indian Vaibhashika, was asserted by a monk named Mitra, but it was refuted by Master Asanga in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle. In accordance with this, Master Vasubandhu extensively refuted it in the Reasoning for Accomplishing Actions, saying: Some consider it to be a state with mind, for example, the monk Mitra in the Universal Inquiry Sutra says: According to whose view the attainment of cessation is without mind, then that fault exists, but according to my view, the attainment of cessation is with mind. Here, the source of the sutra is also taken from the fact that the bodily activities of one who has entered cessation are not stopped, to the fact that the faculties are not changed, and the consciousness has not left the body. What consciousness do those people think it is at that time? Some say it is mind consciousness. If that is the case, then didn't the Blessed One say that dependent on the mind and the object, mind consciousness, the contact of the three perfectly assembled, and the feeling, perception, and intention that arise simultaneously arise? How can there be mind consciousness at that time?

Even if there is undifferentiated consciousness, the three are not completely assembled. Even if the three are completely assembled, how can there be no contact? Even if there is contact, what prevents perception and feeling, saying that there is no feeling and perception? And so on. At that time, a broad refutation was made regarding the existence of the mind consciousness, which is of the nature of good, non-good, and indeterminate. To summarize: Therefore, you logicians, because you have not truly understood the meaning of the scriptures, the idea that there is mind consciousness in states such as cessation samadhi is considered a biased thought. Therefore, when entering cessation samadhi, only the mind of the alaya-consciousness exists, and there is no other mind. As it is said in that very text: Then, how should it be understood as having mind? Just as some Sutra masters believe. How do some Sutra masters believe? From the moment of conception, the Vipaka-consciousness, which is the seed of all, continues uninterruptedly in each successive life, caused by different Vipaka causes, until it reaches Nirvana, and it does not cease at that time. Therefore, that state is called having mind. The other six consciousnesses do not function, because under the influence of the mind of entering cessation samadhi, the seeds of those consciousnesses are temporarily weakened, and therefore it is called without mind. There are two kinds of mind: one is the accumulation of its seeds. The second is diverse due to its different objects, aspects, and distinctions. Because the second mind is incomplete, it is without mind. For example, a bed with only one leg is called legless because the other legs are incomplete. Thus it is said. Therefore, the view that cessation samadhi is non-discriminating wisdom, etc., is a departure from the tradition of the great chariots. The non-perceptual being, due to the samadhi of non-perception, becomes the greatest of the three other abodes of the fourth dhyana.
