When anger and resentment manifest and persist, towards those you are angry and resentful towards, if other friends practicing the same Brahmacharya discuss their faults as before, then those belonging to the category of anger, due to extreme mental anguish, will use harsh words to make the one who speaks again feel disgusted. This is like completely and harshly treating others to hurt their feelings. And, as it is said, "retaliation," it is the basis for generating strong force. When others are urged by faults, some conceal their faults out of ignorance, while others retaliate out of extreme anguish, therefore, these two are called based on discussing faults. Because non-virtuous speech misconduct increases, and it is difficult to associate with such people, it has the function of not being able to touch the happiness of enjoying together with friends. Jealousy and stinginess are both based on gain and respect. Jealousy is attachment to offerings of wealth and respect, such as inviting seats, etc., and being unable to bear the difference in the perfection of others' wealth, retinue, and hearing, etc., thereby disturbing one's own mind. This belongs to the category of hatred, so it can be labeled. It is associated with displeasure, so it is displeasure, and with its power, it has the function of not being able to touch happiness. Stinginess is due to attachment to gain and respect, targeting necessities such as food and clothing, clinging to them with an attached mind, and being unwilling to give them away. It belongs to the category of desire, so it can be labeled. It has the function of making even unnecessary items the basis of undiminished items for fear of depletion. For those who seek gain and respect, these two situations will definitely occur. For example, being unable to bear the suffering of others obtaining gain and respect, and having a strong attachment to one's own already obtained gain. Therefore, these two are called based on gain and respect. The basis of the decline of life.

Regarding the two, flattery and deceit, flattery refers to being particularly attached to gain and respect, thereby arising with the thought of deceiving others, pretending to have qualities such as discipline and samadhi that one does not possess, and falsely displaying non-qualities through the actions of body and speech. This actually belongs to the category of desire and ignorance. If one is not attached to gain and respect, and is not deluded by the faults of wrong livelihood, then no one would falsely pretend with body and speech. This behavior, by falsely pretending with body and speech, causes harm through gains such as beds, therefore it is the karma of relying on wrong livelihood to harm. Deceit refers to, due to being attached to gain and respect, when others talk about the faults of one's own transgressions, in order to conceal it, using methods such as changing the subject to confuse others, thereby truly concealing the transgression. This also belongs to the category of desire and ignorance, because if one is not afraid of losing gain and respect, and is not deluded by the faults of transgressions, then one would not do so. Concealment refers to clearly hiding transgressions, while deceit refers to taking other methods of concealment, therefore they are different. The true key is that if one obtains it, one will give rise to proper attention. And not showing one's true state is because one is not a vessel for showing that state, therefore, it is the karma of relying on obstructing the attainment of the true key. Pride based on disrespecting the guru refers to seeing signs of longevity such as being free from illness, being in the prime of youth, and having a balanced body, as well as other contaminated perfections such as appearance, strength, power, intelligence, and obedience to others' minds, thereby the joy and happiness that greatly shake the mind, and the craving that corresponds to these joys and happiness, which actually belongs to the category of desire. Although joy and displeasure have the same meaning, in order to emphasize the special happiness that makes the mind extremely joyful, both joy and happiness are mentioned. Because joy and happiness are feelings, they should not belong to the category of desire, therefore, it is the craving that corresponds to these joys and happiness.
