I. All wrong views are included in two (views). If someone asks: Are all types of views determined to be sixty-two views? (Answer:) No. Before the wheel of Dharma was turned, among the Shramanas and Brahmins of the holy land of India, all the views that were considered supreme were limited to these sixty-two views. The sutras only speak of "sixty-two views," but the types of views that arise in other countries and times are infinite, so no one other than the Buddha can name them. Similarly, the unrecorded views are not limited to these fourteen, but when someone asked the Tathagata, the sutras say that there are fourteen unrecorded views because these fourteen are the only ones that are not recorded. These fourteen views are not determined to be the only real ones, because in other countries, times, and circumstances, it is not the case that other types of views that should not be recorded will not arise. All evil views are determined to be either eternalistic or annihilationistic. All views that do not rely on the extreme of permanence or annihilation are correct views. Why do they try to question the Tathagata through these fourteen ways? Because there are two types of questions that those who think in advance ask: defilement and purification. Based on the side of purification, four questions about Nirvana are asked. Based on the other side, the remaining questions are asked. The side of defilement is also limited to the two aspects of the inner self and the outer container world, so they ask questions about the two aspects of the self and the world. In order to understand the initial extreme of these, they asked four questions, such as: Are the self and the world permanent or impermanent? In order to understand the final extreme, they asked four questions, such as: Is there an end or no end, etc. Because the current nature of the external world can be easily understood by manifestation, its current...

No questions were posed starting from its own essence, because the nature of the inner self is difficult to understand, so some think that this body itself is the object of the self. Some think that there is a self other than the body. Therefore, in order to understand its present essence, they asked whether the body and life are the same. Therefore, the Tathagata was asked through these fourteen ways. The question "Are the self and the world permanent?" refers to whether they are originally established by their own nature, without beginning, as the ascetics who follow the Samkhya school believe. The term "impermanent" refers to whether they are independent of causes and conditions, suddenly arising and having a beginning, as the materialists believe. The term "both" refers to whether the nature is permanent from beginningless time, but because the states of gods and humans arise anew from causes and conditions such as karma and time, it is also impermanent, as some ascetics who follow the Vaisheshika school say. The term "neither" has the same meaning as the third, and is merely a rebuttal to negate other extremes. The term "finite" refers to whether they will eventually be cut off at the end. The term "infinite" is the opposite of this, and the terms "both" and "neither" can be easily understood by inference from the previous ones. The question "Does the Tathagata exist or not after death?" etc., is asked with regard to the liberated self, and this is also clinging to the future extreme. The reason for not contemplating the past extreme is that merely contemplating the past extreme of the self in samsara will also lead to contemplating the past extreme of the liberated self. If this is the case, then contemplating the future extreme is also meaningless, because contemplating the past is sufficient, but this is not so. Because some people, when in samsara, the self enters the future extreme, but when they attain liberation, they do not wish to enter the future extreme. And others, even after attaining liberation, wish to enter the future extreme, therefore, it is necessary to contemplate the future extreme. It is easy to understand that the body depends on life, and life is the self.
