This is because they cling to the precepts and asceticism of sentient beings, attaching to purity and liberation, etc. One of the wrong views is mostly a view that denies causality, because it is a form of conceiving that cause and effect, etc., do not exist. The reason for saying "mostly" is that there are also wrong views that cling to the form of considering Ishvara as the creator, etc., to show that it is not necessarily purely denial. If only five views are shown here, then how should one understand the views that arise from the sutras about the extremes of the past and the views about the extremes of the future, and from which of these five views do they arise? In this regard, there are eighteen views about the extremes of the past, as follows: There are four of those who assert permanence, four of those who assert some permanence, two of those who assert no cause, four of those who assert having or not having limits, and four of those who assert equivocating immortality. Among them, the four of those who assert permanence are: Some non-Buddhist meditators, through the superknowledge of remembering previous existences, remember twenty, forty, and eighty kalpas, and through the superknowledge of the divine eye, see that beings with good and bad colors die and are born in the same place, and thus say that the self and the world are permanent as they see them. The four of those who assert some permanence are: Some of the retinue of Great Brahma die and are born as humans, and cultivate meditation in solitude, and generate superknowledge, and see that Great Brahma has not died, and say that Great Brahma is permanent, and other gods are impermanent. Or, Great Brahma sees that the great elements are impermanent and that consciousness does not cease, and says that the elements are impermanent and consciousness is permanent. Or, someone who is greatly deceived by the Playful Gods loses mindfulness in play and dies, and is born as a human, and generates superknowledge, and sees that his former companions have not died, and says that those deceived by the Playful Gods are impermanent, and others are permanent. Or, some who are confused about divine friends die by their power, and are born as humans, and generate superknowledge as before, and see that others have not died, and thus think that the confused gods are impermanent.

Others believe in permanence. This is their view. The two views that assert causelessness are: Asserting causelessness based on meditation refers to some beings who die from the formless realm and are born into a desire realm with a physical body. Some sages with clairvoyance observe the previous cause but cannot see it, and therefore believe that the body and mind, etc., arise suddenly. Asserting causelessness based on speculation refers to seeing that rain and wind, etc., arise suddenly, and that trees sometimes suddenly bloom and bear fruit, and sometimes do not. Therefore, they assert that self and the world are causeless. Those who assert having limits and not having limits have four views: Some non-Buddhist sages with clairvoyance want to correctly seek whether the world has an end or not. When they remember the eon of destruction, they have the perception of having limits. When they remember the eon of formation, they have the perception of being limitless. Also, when they want to correctly seek the limits of a vast area, when they do not see beyond the Avici hell below, and do not see below the fourth dhyana above, and do not see the other shore directly in all directions, they perceive that the bottom and top have limits, but the direct direction is limitless. The former relies on the clairvoyance of remembering past lives to speculate on the limits of time. The latter relies on the clairvoyance of the divine eye to speculate on the limits of space. The inconsistent aspect of the latter also clings to the difference in letters, but not to the difference in meaning, thus giving rise to the perception of neither having limits nor not having limits. These people speculate on the past and present realms accordingly, so they are called speculating on the past limit. The past and present things have already happened, so they are the past limit. The brief summary of these is: Some permanence and causelessness, Having limits and abandoning gods, That's what it says. Those who say to abandon the gods have four types: those whose minds are immature, those who have pride in realization, those whose minds are mature but uncertain, and those who are ignorant and foolish.
