Because the nature of the aggregates or the alaya-consciousness is not seen, it does not exist. The object of clinging to self is also not fictional, but becomes an object of substance. It is also unreasonable for the Tathagata to eliminate the self in the aggregates. Didn't you also say that the person exists conventionally? If so, whether it is one with the aggregates or different, either say the aggregates are the self, or follow those who say the self. I only say that the person exists conventionally, but I did not say that it is substantially the same as the aggregates or different. Why is that? If you say it is substantially the same or different, then saying that the person is conventionally existent is just talk, otherwise it would be tantamount to admitting that the person is real. Even so, aren't you following those who say the unspeakable person? If you admit that the person is real and say that it is neither the same as nor different from the aggregates, then to be honest, I do not admit the substance of the so-called person at all. How can there be the same opportunity as those who say the person is a substance? Conventional existence is just a fictional existence of consciousness, which does not actually exist, so when analyzed with reason, it is neither one nor different. For example, a chariot is not conventionally non-existent, because a chariot can carry things, etc., because these names are seen. The meaning of conventional existence is also just a worldly name, and there is nothing else. The chariot is also not one with its parts, such as nails, wheels, axles, etc., because when these parts exist independently, the concept of a chariot does not arise. It is also not different, because when these parts are removed one by one, no other chariot is seen. When these parts are gathered together, no other chariot is produced, because at that time, no chariot other than the parts is seen. However, when these parts are gathered together, without considering whether they are one or different, the thought "this is a chariot" arises, and then

Therefore, the term "chariot" is subsequently applied. Just like a chariot, if one analyzes a person, they cannot be established as either one with or different from the aggregates. However, from beginningless time, due to the power of habituation, the thought of "I" arises towards the aggregates. When this thought naturally arises, one follows that thought and applies names such as person, sentient being, etc. Therefore, persons, sentient beings, chariots, etc., should be understood by following conventional worldly terms, and cannot be pointed out as "this is it" by following reason. The object of the view of self is the self fabricated by the Tirthikas and others, with characteristics such as permanence and oneness. These cannot be established even conventionally. Since all forms of views arise based on the view of self, the view of self is the basis for all views. The view of clinging to extremes is: taking the aggregates that are the object of focus as the object, and regarding the self clung to by the view of self as either permanent because it is unchanging, or as annihilated because it abandons its kind and does not take rebirth, along with any subsequent forbearance, etc. Abandoning permanence and annihilation, one can definitely be liberated from samsara only through the Middle Way. This view contradicts the Middle Way, therefore it has the function of obstructing the attainment of liberation through the Middle Way. Holding views as supreme refers to any subsequent forbearance, etc., that regards the views just mentioned and the five aggregates on which those views rely as supreme, principal, etc. Because it is outstanding, it is supreme; because there is nothing better than it, it is principal; because it surpasses others, it is particularly excellent; because there is nothing comparable to it, it is sacred. Alternatively, although these words have the same meaning, they are spoken to explain each other. If it is said that since one should hold those views as supreme, etc., then how does one hold the aggregates on which they rely? If one clings to a certain view as a correct view, then because that view has a pure nature, one will hold the aggregates that possess that view as a supreme, sacred person, etc. This is holding views as supreme.
