There is also no state of being tormented in any way, because the continuum is moistened by tranquility. There is also no shamelessness or lack of embarrassment, because there is no non-virtue. Since one does not commit misdeeds, there is also no hiding of what has been done; since one does not fully enjoy possessions, there is also no stinginess. Since it is extremely contrary to samadhi, there is also no regret or sleep. Alternatively, since there is no displeasure, there is no regret; since there is no cause of sleep such as food and physical fatigue, there is no sleep. In the first dhyana, there is pervasive clinging to samsara, so there is deceit and cause to deceive it, but it is said that there is none from the second dhyana upwards. This master did not explain the above realm in detail, so he said to abide according to the explanation of the Abhidharmakosha. From the second dhyana upwards, it is said that it is absent in the manner of simplifying discrimination and observation, but it is not absent in the manner of universal arising, because there are verbal expressions and so on. Among these mental factors, which are substantially existent and which are nominally existent? The five pervasive mental factors are substantially existent, because their nature does not mix with other mental factors, but exists independently. The five object-determinations are also substantially existent. Among the virtues such as faith, mindfulness, equanimity, non-harmfulness, and non-ignorance are nominally existent, and the rest are substantially existent. Among the afflictions, view is a part of wisdom, so it is only nominally existent, and the rest are all substantially existent. The near afflictions are part of the afflictions, so they are only nominally existent, and the transformations are also part of mind and wisdom, so they are nominally existent. Now I will explain the individual characteristics of the mental factors. Among them, first, it is intended to show the first of the six categories, the three pervasive mental factors, so it is said, "What is mind?" These should each be understood by way of two aspects: characteristic and function. Mind makes manifest and constructs, just as the power of a magnet moves iron, by what does the mind move towards the object? Thus it is said

du. It does not remain in another instant. From what does the undifferentiated mind arise? It appears as if it is doing and acting. That which is the mind is the function of attention. It is like that which is said. The function of attention is that other things arising from the mind also cause the mind to manifest. Therefore, it is spoken to differentiate it from others. That which is the dharma that causes the consciousness to move in all directions is the mind, and not something else. It should be known in this way. The function is to cause the mind to enter into the three, such as virtue, because by the power of attention, the mind moves to that and that object. The nature of attention is the entry of the mind, that is, by what does the mind manifestly turn towards the object? The function is to hold the mind on the object, that is, the synonym for repeatedly directing the mind's continuum to that very object. This function is exemplified in the sutra which says, "Obtaining attention is obtaining samadhi." Therefore, the special attention is made in terms of the function of samadhi and its correspondence, but not of all, because other attentions only cause the mind to turn to the object moment by moment. The nature of contact is when object, sense faculty, and consciousness are assembled as cause and effect, what is it that discerns the aspect of the object that is similar to the change of the sense faculty and that will experience pleasure and so on? The change of the sense faculty is the distinction of the sense faculty that corresponds to the arising of pleasure and pain and so on. Its function is to be the basis for the arising of feeling, that is, when the three, object, sense faculty, and consciousness, are assembled, from discerning the three objects, desirable, undesirable, and abiding in the middle, the three experiences of joy, sorrow, and equanimity naturally arise. As it is also said in the sutra, "Depending on the contact that will experience pleasure, the feeling of pleasure arises." Since the time has come to explain the objects that are determined separately, therefore it is said, "What is desire?" In that, the nature of desire is the entity by which one desires to see, hear, and so on.
