It is for this reason. The second is the classification, etc., indicated by "etc.", which are sixteen dharmas, because all the content to be expressed in the treatise is contained in these dharmas. The first chapter of the Compendium of Categories, titled "Compendium of Categories." Having thus briefly established the nature of the treatise, it is explained in detail from each branch, divided into two: the actual treatise with a name and the explanation of the name and meaning of the treatise. The first part is further divided into two parts: a general explanation of the three dharmas and a detailed determination of the differences that are difficult to understand. The first part has twelve contents: the classification of the nature of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas; the reason for the fixed number; the explanation of the contaminated and appropriation; the characteristics of the three dharmas; the individual establishments; the order; the name and meaning; the analogy; the various classifications of aspects; the summary; the association; and the possession. The first part is divided into two, of which the question is: If a treatise is composed with the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas as the objects to be expressed, then how many skandhas are there? Similarly, how many dhatus and ayatanas are there? Here, if even the names of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas have not been mentioned in the treatise before, how can it be reasonable to suddenly ask about their numerical classification? Because without a basis, it is impossible to apply the dependent dharma, which is impossible. The answer is: Although this is true, it is the general rule of the scriptures that the expounders explain the object to be expressed and the necessity, etc., as branches for entering the beginning of explaining the body of the treatise. Here, too, when the expounders explain the necessity, etc., of the treatise, they assume that the object to be expressed in the treatise is the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, and then begin to ask questions, so there is no fault. If so, then establishing a connection during the explanation will also become unconnected. The answer is: It is enough to have a connection during the explanation. If it is necessary to establish another connection at the beginning of writing the treatise, then it will become endless, and all treatises will need a basis like the sutras, which would be too much. The second part is the answer, divided into three, the first is the number of skandhas. The basis of classification is "skandhas, etc." The word "is" is to specifically distinguish it from the following two, that is, in this case of showing the fixed number of the three dharmas, the skandhas.

Only the number of the five aggregates is definite, while the elements and sources are not. The two "is" at the bottom also apply in the same way. The number of divisions is five. The nature of what is divided is: the aggregate of form, from the aggregate of form to the aggregate of consciousness. Among them, because it can be broken and destroyed, it is form, and whatever has this nature is all gathered together by the mind, or because it carries the burden of all afflictions, or because it is the nature of extremely increasing suffering, so it is an aggregate. Because of experiencing, it is feeling. Because of holding the characteristics of gathering and knowing, it is perception. Because the mind manifestly constructs, it is formation. Because of distinguishing objects individually, it is consciousness. Whatever has this nature is all gathered together by the mind, so it is an aggregate. If it is both form and an aggregate, is it called the aggregate of form? Or is the aggregate related to form called the aggregate of form? If according to the first statement, the imputation of the aggregate and form should not be the same basis. If according to the second statement, the imputation of the aggregate has no other meaning than form, so the related words should not be used. If you say so, both statements can be established, if the meaning of the aggregate is to carry the burden of all afflictions and the suffering of extreme increase, then it conforms to the first statement. If the meaning of the aggregate is gathering, then it will conform to the latter statement. Secondly, the basis for classifying the number of elements is: the elements. The number of divisions is eighteen. The nature of what is divided is: from the eye element to the mind element. Among them, because it holds by holding the past and present near-use places of holding form, or because it is the cause of the manifestation of the eye, it is the eye element. In this way, it holds by holding the object of near-use, or because it is the cause of the production of form, it is the form element. Because it holds the self-nature of holding the near-use of holding form, or because it is the cause of its manifestation and production, it is the eye consciousness element. In this way, the rest should also be analogized according to the situation, and it is easy to understand. Here, if holding near-use is taken as the meaning of the element, then it is both the eye and the eye element, so it is the eye
