The suffering that one does not want to encounter and the feeling, and the feeling in which neither of the two arises, is called the feeling of equanimity, which is neither suffering nor happiness. Just like the feeling arising from eye contact, in order to show that all three, such as happiness, can arise in one feeling, the word "also" is used for each word. Regarding the classification of places, there is the classification of places with form, such as "happiness of the body is also possible," and so on. The classification of places without form is, for example, "happiness of the mind is also possible," and so on. That is to say, each of the three feelings of happiness, suffering, and equanimity mentioned earlier has a place, and from the distinction of non-physical, there are two types of feelings: bodily feeling and mental feeling. There are also two types of classification from the perspective of defilement and purification. First, from the perspective of abandonment and antidote of detachment from the view of the perishable collection, from "happiness with contamination is also possible" to "neither suffering nor happiness, without contamination is also possible," that is, each of the feelings such as happiness is bound by self-grasping, and there are two types: contaminated, which is destroyed by the path of transcendence, and uncontaminated, which is free from self-grasping. From the perspective of detachment from grasping, from "happiness that is attached and dependent is also possible" to "neither suffering nor happiness, attachment and dependence are also possible," that is, each of happiness, etc., has attachment and dependence bound by craving for the qualities of desire, and the feeling of dependence that arises from being free from such craving. Depending on the body and mind, not only feelings but also other mental activities exist, so why are feelings divided into bodily and mental feelings only? Although this is the case, feelings benefit and harm their own place, but other mental states and mental events do not benefit or harm. Therefore, any feeling that benefits or harms its own place, including the senses, is called a bodily feeling, and a feeling that benefits or harms the mind is called a mental feeling. If so, why does equanimity become a bodily and mental feeling?

If it is said, because they neither benefit nor harm these. Then, it is placed there because it is of such a nature. For mind and mental factors other than feeling, there are also defiled and undefiled, as well as clinging-support and manifestation-support, are there not? Why is it only feeling that is distinguished in this way? To this it is said, it is not that there are no defiled and undefiled, etc., for other mental and mental factors, because in terms of distinctions, all of the aggregates, elements, and sources are divided into these two. However, here, among the mental and mental factors, feeling is the main cause for establishing defilement and clinging-support as dharma. Therefore, whatever feeling becomes the cause of defilement and establishing clinging-support as dharma is called defiled and clinging-support feeling. Whatever feeling does not become the cause of these is established as undefiled and manifestation-support feeling. What is the dharma that establishes defilement and clinging-support? And how is feeling said to be the main cause of these dharmas? It is said: Whatever craving that has the nature of desire and attachment to the aggregates of appropriation is the dharma that is established as defilement, because whatever is related to it is called defilement. Whatever craving that has the nature of desire and attachment to the qualities of desire is the dharma that is established as clinging-support, because whatever possesses that craving is called clinging-support. These cravings actually arise from feeling, because craving arises from the condition of feeling associated with ignorance. Explaining "bodily pleasure" etc. is: What is the nature of what is called bodily feeling? It is the feelings that correspond to the five aggregates of sense consciousness. Because they benefit and harm their own place, the body associated with the senses, therefore it is called bodily feeling. Are the other four senses, such as the ear, also called body? Or why are the feelings of these called bodily feelings?
