Now, how can shapes and expressions, which are nominally existent, become objects of the eye? In truth, just as shapes and so on, colors such as blue are also not objects of the eye, because they are not composed of atoms. Because external objects are not objects of sense consciousness. However, in conventional terms, there is no difference between colors such as blue and shapes such as long as objects of eye consciousness. For example, only a form that has been differentiated by shapes such as long and short is visible to the eye; a single form devoid of shape differentiation, or a single shape devoid of color, is never visible to the eye. Similarly, in worldly parlance, we say that we see someone's hand extending and contracting, or that we see someone going elsewhere. Therefore, expressions are also said to be objects of the eye in the world. Therefore, there is no fault, because they are established according to how they are spoken of in the world. The previously mentioned classification of forms can be summarized into four types: good colors, bad colors, colors that exist between the two, and those similar to colors. These are, in order, the forms of gods, hell-beings, humans, and intermediate beings; or pleasing, displeasing, and neither; and clouds, smoke, fog, and so on. The classification of sounds, from the perspective of benefiting or harming the senses, is threefold: pleasing and so on, which is easy to understand. From the perspective of cause, there are those that arise from the cause of grasping great elements, those that arise from the cause of non-grasping great elements, and those that arise from both. These are, in order, sounds such as those of hands and speech, sounds such as those of water and wind, and sounds such as hands striking pottery drums. Detailed classification according to teachings includes worldly renown, established teachings, and completely imputed. That is, in order, sounds included in worldly conventions, sounds by which noble ones teach the reality of Dharma, and sounds by which outsiders, who are outside of this Dharma, teach their own completely imputed self, lord, and so on.

Sound! The detailed classification of terms is: terms designated by the noble ones and terms designated by the non-noble ones. That is to say, in order, speaking truthfully and not truthfully about the objects of seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and knowing. Odors can also be classified from the perspective of essence or benefit and harm: fragrant, foul, and neutral odors. That is to say, in order, odors that are beneficial, harmful, and neither to the nasal faculty. From the perspective of cause or mode of arising, they are classified as: co-emergent, arising from combination, and arising from transformation. That is to say, in order, the odors of sandalwood and saffron, the odors of incense and cardamom, and the odors of unripe amalaka, etc. Tastes are classified from the perspective of characteristics as: bitter, sour, pungent, astringent, salty, and sweet. That is to say, in order, the taste of Picrorhiza kurroa, the taste of Emblica officinalis, the taste of Piper longum, the taste of Terminalia chebula, the taste of salt, and the taste of sugarcane, etc. These six are the basic classifications of taste, and the classifications of tastes that are combined together are limitless. From the perspective of benefit and harm, there are three, such as pleasant, and from the perspective of mode of arising, there are three, such as co-emergent, which are easy to understand. In the classification of tactile objects, what is established by pervasive contact is: smoothness and roughness. These, in order, are: not rough and soft, able to endure friction, and the opposite of that. What is established by pervasive measurement is: lightness and heaviness. In order, it is: easy to lift and causes the scale to rise, and the opposite of that. What is established by touch is: stickiness. That is a tactile object like glue, becoming slimy. What is established by pervasive compression is: laxity and non-laxity. These are tactile objects that can withstand pressure like the down of a vulture, and tactile objects that cannot withstand pressure like a stone. What is established by aggregation is: coldness and warmth. These are the tactile objects of the aggregation of water and wind, and the aggregation of water and earth. From the harmony of the elements are: refreshment, depletion, and distension. These are, arising from fatigue
