Therefore, the consciousnesses of the senses such as the eye, their place of arising and the objects they perceive are determined separately because the places where the sense faculties such as the eye arise together are determined separately. There is no other reason. Like this, it is not because the cause and the immediately preceding condition are determined separately, because the sense consciousnesses arise simultaneously from a single seed of the four causal factors, just like the condition, so there is no separate determination. It cannot be said that it is because external objects such as form and sound are determined separately, even if that were the case, the eye consciousness would only grasp form, and the ear consciousness would only grasp sound, this certainty would not change, because there is no difference in the internal efficient cause. Even if the immediately preceding condition is determined separately, the fault is the same as with the sense consciousnesses. Thus, the consciousnesses of the senses determine their objects separately from the different places where they arise together, this view is established. So, that's enough for now. Now I will explain the main text. There are two types: summary and detailed explanation. First, the summary: Whatever is form, whether it is manifest form or shape form, any form with these two characteristics, in short, is the form of the cause, the four great elements, and the form of the result, the four great elements arising from the cause. Why is it called the "great element"? Because when various forms of the result are formed, they appear in various forms, or because from beginningless time, due to the power of karma, they have never appeared before, so it is called "arising"; and because it is the basis of all forms of the result, it is very important; or because in all aggregates, any one of the elements such as earth pervades, so the dwelling place is very vast, hence it is called "great." Or because it is the source of all forms of the result, it is "arising," and because it pervades all aggregates of form, it is "great." In performing the function of producing the form of the result, these four are neither too many nor too few, so there are only four. Why? Because...

Nourishing, gathering, maturing, and moving, these four actions alone are sufficient to completely accomplish the act of manifesting the forms of the fruits. These four are also the unique actions of earth and so on. The great elements produce the fruits of five kinds of actions, such as nourishing and supporting, for future beings. When showing form, it is said that one great element is the cause. The five causes have already been stated. The detailed explanation is divided into two parts. First, the explanation of the form of the cause: Previously, only the name "four great elements" was mentioned. Because its meaning was not understood, the question was asked, "What are the four great elements?" The answer is: Because they hold their own characteristics and the form that is the cause, earth and so on are themselves realms. In order to distinguish between the great elements themselves and from the eye realm and so on, the word "earth and so on" is used. In order to differentiate from the earth and so on that are commonly known in the world, the word "realm" is used. In this way, earth and so on can be divided into two kinds of differences that are known in the world and in the scriptures. Among them, the earth and so on that are known in the world are not realms, because they are considered to be the nature of colors and shapes, such as white earth and blue water. But the earth and so on that are known in the scriptures, because they have properties such as hardness, are reasonable realms in the true sense. Alternatively, the word "realm" has the meaning of cause, and the great elements of earth and so on, because they are the source of the form of the fruit, the word "realm" with the meaning of cause is applied to them. But the forms of the fruit, such as the eye, are not like this, so the word "realm" is not used here. Such an explanation is also faultless. So, what are the earth realm and so on? In order, for the consciousness of the body, those that appear as hardness, wetness, warmth, and movement are. Among them, hardness, stiffness, and viscosity have the same meaning. The nature of gathering is dampness and wetness. The nature of burning is warmth. When showing the wind realm, the word "movement" is mentioned twice, because cotton
