Furthermore, it has already been stated that if atoms possess parts such as directions, they cannot be the nature of atoms. The second point is also incorrect because even in the aggregated state, they have not deviated from the nature of the previously partless subtle atoms. If, just as individual entities are not apprehended by root consciousness, aggregates also cannot be apprehended by root consciousness, then that is not the case. Previously, a single subtle atom that could not generate self-awareness when unaccompanied, later, according to the circumstances of the conditions, when it comes into contact with many atoms of the same kind in a single compatible place, adhering to each other, through the immediately preceding cause of its own kind, and from the condition of the immediately preceding moment of the atom accompanying it, it generates the ability to generate self-awareness. Therefore, in the aggregated state, atoms are apprehended by root consciousness, but not when unaccompanied. What contradiction is there in this? If it is said that when unaccompanied, atoms do not possess parts such as direction and shape, but when accompanied by similar entities, through the immediately preceding cause of its own kind and the accompanying condition, they arise possessing parts such as direction and shape, what contradiction is there in that? That is not the same, because even when atoms exist unaccompanied, if they encounter conditions of the same kind as themselves, they remain in the nature of being able to generate self-awareness. Therefore, when they encounter such conditions, they arise with the ability to generate self-awareness. However, it is not reasonable for atoms to arise possessing parts such as direction and shape in all states, whether unaccompanied or accompanied, regardless of what conditions they encounter. This is because whatever possesses parts such as direction and shape is not the ultimate limit of smallness of form, and whatever is not the ultimate limit of smallness of form cannot be an atom. If atoms arise possessing parts such as direction in the aggregated state, they would become something other than the nature of atoms. That is also unreasonable because no dharma ever abandons its own nature in any state, because nature cannot be transformed by conditions. If the nature of the subtle atom is direction, etc.

If it is said that even if the parts with directions are not produced, but from those as causes, other things with directions are produced, then this should be examined: Is that thing with parts of directions also one coarse thing, or is it the nature of many extremely small particles? If it is the first case, then whatever has parts such as directions and shapes is not four, for example, like mansions and rows of hundreds of birds singing beautifully, the manifested desired objects are also admitted to have parts such as directions and shapes, which will become the fault of contradictory pervasion being ascertained. If it is the second case, then neither the single extremely small particle nor the gathering of many has parts such as directions and shapes, which has been said before. If it is thought that shapes such as length and shortness are nominally established, then colors such as blue and yellow will all become conceptually imputed, because the mind of color arises only in the state of accumulation, but not in the extremely small particles, then this is not so, because the particles of colors such as blue and yellow do not have the ability to generate consciousness when they are without a partner, so it is only that the consciousness of blue and yellow etc. does not arise. But at that time, blue and yellow etc. are not non-existent in it and its nature, otherwise, when they meet other particles of the same kind, how will they appear as the nature of colors such as blue and yellow? Because it has been said that other things with colored parts do not arise. Just as the particles of colors such as blue and yellow are established in reality, the particles of shapes such as length and shortness are not established in reality, because, for example, whatever color is composed of particles of blue etc., even if one sees many other colors, it is never possible to abandon the mind of its color, similarly, if it is thought that a long thing composed of long particles, when it meets some other long things, it should also not abandon the recognition of length, but this is not the case, because the long row of hundreds of birds singing beautifully, relative to the short row of birds, will produce the recognition of length, but when seeing the row of thousands of birds etc., it will produce the recognition of shortness. Similarly, the directions such as east are also the nature composed of minute particles.
