What is the result that is led by the agent? It is thoroughly distinguished by the agent cause. What is the result of the lord? It is the result of what cause is to be influenced. It is thoroughly distinguished by the condition of the lord. What is the result of maturation? The cause is good, non-good, and different in kind, without obscuration, transformed into the nature of the unspecified, and counted as sentient beings. It is thoroughly distinguished by the cause of maturation. Among them, the result of separation is not limited by time. The result of the agent and the lord is the same as the cause in time, and there is also the present situation. There are also unequal future situations. The result of the same cause and the result of maturation only arise later in time than the cause. The causes and conditions of nominal and true have been completely explained. Now, the immediately preceding condition will be explained. In this regard, the previous minds are regarded as the immediately preceding condition for the minds and mental factors of the same kind as themselves that will arise in the future. What is the result? It is the other minds and mental factors that are arising successively after oneself. It is not all that arises successively after oneself, but what arises immediately. Do all minds and mental factors become immediately preceding conditions? If some are constantly arising without interruption, then these similar ones become immediately preceding conditions, but those that are interrupted externally, like the last mind of an Arhat, are not. The so-called immediately preceding does not mean that it is not interrupted by other moments, but that it is not interrupted by other minds of the same kind. For example, although gardens and so on are interrupted by other things, considering that houses are not interrupted by other houses of the same kind, it is like saying that the house of the giver is next to the house of the donor. Furthermore, if it is thought that the mind of absorption will not become the immediately preceding condition for the mind that has just arisen from the absorption without mind, that is also incorrect, because there is no other immediately preceding condition that can be pointed out other than that. Why does the previous mind, which has stopped for a long time, become the condition for the subsequent mind?

Thus, because the power of the previous dharma ceasing, the opportunity for the subsequent dharma to arise is obtained, therefore the cessation of the previous dharma also becomes a cause for the subsequent dharma. Otherwise, if the previous dharma does not cease, the subsequent dharma cannot arise, because there is no possibility for similar continuums of consciousness to arise simultaneously in one continuum. These have already been extensively explained before, so I will not elaborate further. So, are only dharmas such as virtue and realms and grounds such as desire that are similar to each other causes and effects? No, whatever is appropriate, whether similar or dissimilar, can become an immediately preceding condition. For example, a virtuous mind can become an immediately preceding condition for virtuous dharmas that are similar to itself, and for non-virtuous and neutral dharmas that are dissimilar. Similarly, non-virtuous and neutral dharmas should also be regarded as immediately preceding conditions for oneself and others. Similarly, those that operate in the desire realm are the immediately preceding conditions for those that operate in the desire realm, those that operate in the form and formless realms, and the stainless mind. Those that operate in the form and formless realms are also the immediately preceding conditions for all three realms, and for the stainless mind and mental factors. The stainless mind and mental factors are also the immediately preceding conditions for the three realms and the stainless mind and mental factors. This is just a rough arrangement. A detailed analysis is as follows: In short, these dharmas of mind and mental factors are the basis, that is, those that operate in the three realms and the stainless. Among them, there are three in the desire realm, namely virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. In the form and formless realms, non-virtue is abandoned, so there are only two. The virtuous dharmas of the three realms are of two kinds, namely, those obtained by birth and those arising from cultivation. There are also two kinds of neutral dharmas, namely, obscured and unobscured. Among the unobscured neutral dharmas, in the desire realm, there are four kinds: those arising from craftsmanship, those arising from deportment, those arising from transformation, and those arising from maturation. In the form realm, there are three others besides those arising from craftsmanship. In the formless realm, there is only one arising from maturation. There are also two kinds of stainless dharmas.
