Whatever arises as a cause is a cause of increase or equiproportionality, because they are the cause of making virtuous and similar fruits grow more and more. The afflictions and near afflictions that have been previously habituated, due to the power of habituation, cause other afflictions and near afflictions to grow more and more in the future. These afflictions and near afflictions are the cause of interruption or pervasiveness, because they show the continuous growth of their own afflicted fruit, which extends the stream of nirvana. This is separately classified as a cause of increase because it increases the fruit that hinders the attainment of liberation, so the fault is very great. Non-virtuous and contaminated virtuous dharmas are the cause of complete holding or maturation, because they completely hold the maturation body of future happy or unhappy realms. The reason for mentioning contaminated virtuous dharmas is that uncontaminated dharmas are incompatible with birth, and because they are free from the moisture of desire. Like dry seeds, they do not produce maturation. Unspecified dharmas, like rotten seeds, are inherently weak, so they do not have the power to produce maturation. The fruits arising from these six causes are five: the fruit of separation, the fruit of equiproportionality, the fruit of action, the fruit of dominance, and the fruit of maturation. What is the fruit of separation? It is the abandonment gathered by the cessation of individual examination, which is the abandonment of the seeds to be abandoned by the transcendental path. It is the fruit of the agent that obtains it, not the fruit of other causes. The agent cause also only causes the attainment of that abandonment, so it is its cause, but not the cause of producing other differences, because it is non-existent. What is the fruit of equiproportionality? It is the fruit that is of the same kind as the cause. It arises from the equiproportional and pervasive causes, but not from other causes. What is the fruit of action? It is the power of the cause.
