It is the immediate cause, and the second is that it becomes the common co-existing condition for many dissimilar fruits, so it is the co-existing condition. Therefore, the causal condition is what produces the fruit and is also the immediate cause. The remaining three are only the means of producing the fruit and are also the co-existing condition. That which produces is the causal condition, and there are two kinds of production: nominal and actual. The first is the six causes, namely: the efficient cause, the co-existent cause, the corresponding cause, the homogenous cause, the pervasive cause, and the ripening cause. Among them, the first cause acts on both the present and future fruits. The co-existent cause and the corresponding cause act only on the present fruit. The remaining three act only on the future fruit. These are said to produce only nominally, but not actually, because the fruits are reasonably produced from their own seeds; otherwise, dissimilar things cannot become cause and effect. Therefore, these six causes are actually only the means of producing the fruit, so they are included in the remaining three conditions as appropriate. Among them, the efficient cause is included in all three conditions. The co-existent cause, the corresponding cause, and the ripening cause are included in the dominant condition. The remaining two are included in the dominant condition and the immediately preceding condition. There are also two kinds of causes that actually produce the fruit: the unestablished Alaya-consciousness and the established one. In the first case, the way to summarize the determination is: what is the causal condition? That is, the physical sense faculty with its basis and the consciousness, these two are briefly called all the seeds. The one with the physical sense faculty is also the seed of those physical sense faculties themselves and other physical phenomena, and it is also the seed of all phenomena of mind and mental factors.

That which possesses the ability to discern is also the seed of all forms of consciousness that possess discernment. Furthermore, it is also the seed of non-form dharmas other than these, as well as the form sense faculties. Apart from the great elements, other form dharmas should be understood as being solely of the nature of possessing their own seeds. The form of the great elements possesses two seeds: the seed of the great elements and the seed of form that serves as the cause. Therefore, as it is proclaimed, whatever is thus established as possessing the causal factor of seeds for all dharmas, is called the causal condition. As it is said. In brief, the form sense faculties also have the seeds of mind, and the mind also has the seeds of the form sense faculties. Moreover, since the seed cannot be said to be the same as or different from the basis that possesses the seed, there is no fault of dissimilar types becoming cause and effect. Such a seed is the causal condition for form, mind, and mental factors. This principle is considered from the perspective of not establishing the Alaya-vijnana (store consciousness). As it is said: The manner of establishing seeds should be understood as not establishing the Alaya-vijnana. Thus it is said. If the Alaya-vijnana is established, then it itself is the causal condition for all dharmas. It is also said: If it is established, then it should be understood that it possesses the seeds of all dharmas. Thus it is said. This principle will be explained in the treatise. Why are the remaining three conditions merely methods for producing the result? Because the seed is merely an assistant in producing its own result. It is not the producer, because dissimilar types cannot become cause and effect. Among these four conditions, from which condition does which result arise? All minds and mental factors arise from the four conditions. For example, because they are distinguished by object-consciousness, they arise from the objective condition. Because it is impossible for two of the same type to arise simultaneously in the same continuum, they arise from the immediately preceding condition.

Yes. Because it relies on the power of itself and its companions, it arises from the Adhipati-hetu (dominant condition). Because everything arises from everything, it arises from its own Sahabhu-hetu (concomitant condition). Material forms arise from both Sahabhu-hetu and Adhipati-hetu. For non-associated compositional factors, there is no separate Sahabhu-hetu, but they arise only from Adhipati-hetu. Thus, having generally established the four conditions, in order to explain their respective natures in detail, among the four conditions, first is Sahabhu-hetu. Among the two Sahabhu-hetus, from the perspective of the true Sahabhu-hetu and the conventional Sahabhu-hetu, the former is mentioned as the Alaya-vijñana (store consciousness) and the virtuous impressions. In order, they are the Sahabhu-hetu of the defiled and undefiled dharmas. There are two types of Alaya-vijñana: Vipaka (resultant) and those arising from Abhisamskarana (manifestation). Among them, Vipaka is the Sahabhu-hetu of the dharmas heard from birth. The Alaya-vijñana arising from Abhisamskarana should be understood as the special impressions that arise together with the consciousness of entering the womb in this life. Although the commentary explains it this way, the nature of Vipaka is the ultimate nature of the complete maturation of the karmic impressions, so it does not act as the Sahabhu-hetu for any other dharma, but only acts as the Adhipati-hetu for all dharmas obtained from birth and arising from practice. The part of the seed is the Sahabhu-hetu of all dharmas, which has already been explained in detail. The virtuous impressions are the undefiled seeds of the distinction of the six sense bases. How it becomes the cause of undefiled dharmas has already been explained in detail before. From the perspective of the conventional Sahabhu-hetu, it is also said, "The essence itself," and so on. The essence itself is the cause. The distinction is the distinction of its kinds. Friend is the cause arising simultaneously. Correct understanding is the corresponding cause. Vastness is the cause of equal flow. Intermediate behavior is the pervasive cause. Complete grasping is the resultant cause. Explaining each of them in detail is, the essence itself.
