The reason for examining the beginning first is to ultimately examine what arises from the beginning. Why is it that both the forward and reverse order of defilements are cultivated? It is to comprehend the nature of the truths of origination and suffering. That is, all defilements are included within the two truths of suffering and origination. In order to comprehend the nature of the truth of origination, the cultivation of defilements in accordance with the order is taught, because ignorance and action are the nature of karma and afflictions, and these two are taught as the initial cause of the other limbs. In order to comprehend the nature of the truth of suffering, the method of cultivating defilements in reverse order is taught, because birth and death are the ultimate fully ripened fruit of karma and afflictions, and are therefore completely distinguished by the truth of suffering. In the "Yogācārabhūmi" it is also said, "Why is dependent origination taught in reverse order, starting from old age and death? It is done so according to the aspect of truth, that is, birth and death are completely distinguished by the truth of suffering." This is what is said. Considering this meaning, the commentary says that old age and death, the origination of old age and death, the cessation of old age and death, and the path leading to the cessation of old age and death, are taught in reverse order, taking into account the establishment of truth. Although it is explained this way, I do not find it reasonable. Purification in accordance with the order is as follows: with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease, and so on, until with the cessation of birth, old age and death cease. The reverse order is as follows: if what does not exist, old age and death do not arise? With the cessation of what, do old age and death cease? If birth does not exist, old age and death do not arise; with the cessation of birth, old age and death cease, and so on, until if ignorance does not exist, actions do not arise; with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease. Why is purification in accordance with the order

If asked, why are two ways of conforming and not conforming to reason taught? It is to understand the truth of cessation and the path. Like this, all pure dharmas are contained in the two truths of cessation and the path. Among them, in order to understand the truth of the path, the pure dharma that conforms to reason is taught. Because through this sequence, ignorance ceases, thereby declaring that all the remaining limbs such as actions are completely extinguished. Moreover, the antidote to eliminate ignorance is also wisdom, which is the nature of the truth of the path. In order to understand the truth of cessation, the pure dharma that is established in a way that does not conform to reason is taught. It is for contemplating the nature of the cessation of the truth of suffering such as old age and death, and because cessation is also distinguished by the cessation of suffering. Alternatively, the first is to contemplate the method of eliminating causes such as ignorance, and the second is to contemplate the nature of the cessation of effects such as old age and death, so it should be understood that this is contemplating the path and cessation. Seventh, in the first of the eleven aspects of explaining conditions, etc., it is explained through three meanings, namely: distinguishing and revealing, introducing, and summarizing. Among them, if asked, what is the cause of actions? What is the condition? The Blessed One said that the conditions for the arising of actions are these four, namely: the causal condition, the immediately preceding condition, the objective condition, and the dominant condition. Among them, the causal condition is both a cause and a condition. Among them, the other three conditions are only conditions and not causes. As it is said, there are four kinds of causal conditions, etc. Everything is a condition, because even unconditioned phenomena become the objective condition of some kind of conceptualization. If one knows that the cause and condition of the arising of actions are merely dharmas, one can abandon the attachment that the dharmas of actions arise from the cause of self. Among them, what is the meaning of cause? What is the meaning of condition? That which produces the result is the cause, and that which becomes the means for the result to arise is the condition. The first is the uncommon cause, so it is the result's
