Therefore. Among them, the four characteristics of arising, etc., are entities different from the base of characteristics, because otherwise, it would be contradictory for oneself to act on oneself, and it would also be contradictory for a characteristic not to act on its base. If there were no arising and ceasing, etc., for arising, etc., they would become non-conditioned phenomena. Therefore, the characteristics that accord with arising, such as the arising of arising, also exist. For those, it is meaningless to contemplate the four characteristics of arising, etc., because the fundamental characteristics of arising, etc., already indicate that they are conditioned phenomena. Among them, the fundamental arising performs the function of bringing the fundamental and conforming characteristics other than itself, as well as the characteristic-base conditioned phenomena, from the future to the present. The arising of arising brings arising itself from the future to the present. Similarly, the fundamental impermanence causes the eight dharmas other than itself to pass from the present to the past, while the impermanence of impermanence causes it itself to pass from the fundamental stage to the past stage. The fundamental abiding causes the eight dharmas to abide in the present entity, and that is caused to abide by the abiding of abiding. The fundamental aging causes the eight dharmas to abide, and that is caused to decay by the aging of aging, so they think. As it is said, they are the arising of arising, etc., which operate in union with the eight dharmas. Here, these characteristics are calculated according to the continuum, not according to the moment, because it is not reasonable for a moment to abide and change. Furthermore, these arising, etc., are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena spoken of by the Bhagavan as they are commonly known in the world, because momentary arising and ceasing are not known in the world, and it is also not reasonable for the world to understand the nature of conditioned phenomena from characteristics that are not known. Therefore, as it is said in the sutra: 'Arising is produced from what did not exist before; continuing existence, its cessation is ceasing; the continuum is the difference between before and after, called transformation into other stages.' As it is said, it is reasonable for the continuum. From the real thing of the characteristic base, in reality, neither is it established as one entity, nor is it established as a different entity.
