Etc., the real entities such as form, distinguished by the non-inverted manner. There are also things that are neither, such as space and non-analytical cessation. Furthermore, if whatever exists nominally also exists conventionally, then is it so? Answer: There are things that exist nominally but not conventionally, which is the third case mentioned earlier. Furthermore, if whatever exists substantially is itself conventionally existent, then there are four possibilities. The third possibility of the first set becomes the third possibility here. The second possibility of the first set becomes the fourth possibility here. Furthermore, if whatever exists imputedly, is that ultimately existent? Again, there are four possibilities. The fourth of the first set is the first here. The third of the first set is the second here. The second of the first set is the third here. The first of the first set is the fourth here. Now, explaining the nature of the knowable and the like. Among these, firstly, considering the knowable, it is said, "How should it be known?" etc. There are two aspects: the nature of the five bases and the explanation by way of the divisions of the knower. The first is: the phenomena to be known by those who desire liberation are five in number, namely, form and so forth. Why are all these to be known? Because, with respect to the basis in which there is complete affliction and complete purification, form is to be known. Because when the body with its senses is the object, some are completely afflicted by attachment and the like, and because of faith and the like, it is aimed at as an object. Whatever entity, with respect to complete affliction and complete purification, the very nature of mind is to be known. Because the mind, which is pure by nature, is said to be completely afflicted when it is associated with attachment and the like, and it is said to be completely purified when it is associated with faith and the like; only such terms are applied. Because there is no other phenomenon besides the mind that can be completely afflicted or completely purified. By whatever action there is complete affliction and complete purification, the phenomena arising from the mind are to be known, such as afflictions like desire and anger, and so on.

And the near afflictions, and the contacts, feelings, perceptions, minds, etc. that arise and conform to them, completely defile the mind. And virtuous dharmas such as faith, and other contacts, etc. that arise and conform to them, purify the mind. Therefore, those three, whether in a state of defilement or purification, should understand non-mind-related formations, because the state of defilement and purification of those three is limited to this. One should understand unconditioned phenomena as the nature of purification, wherein, the place of purification is Suchness, what purifies it is Immovability, cessation of perception and feeling, and the place of purification is Separately Analyzed Cessation. Therefore, all five of these are only to be understood. Among them, form is the skandha of form, etc., these five summarize and show all the skandhas, realms, and sources mentioned earlier, but for the sake of easy understanding, they are not separately explained. Secondly, explaining from the method of knowing them, that is, dharmas to be known such as form, etc., are also to be known because they are the objects of faith-knowing, etc. Among them, faith-knowing is the wisdom born of hearing, because it arises only from believing and trusting what others say. Reasoning is the wisdom born of thinking, because it arises from examining and analyzing with reason. Non-scattering wisdom is the wisdom born of worldly meditation, because it arises from the mind being focused on the object without scattering outward. Knowing the self of others is knowing the minds of others, because the mind of the self of others is its object. Knowing the lower is knowing the Dharma, because it first arises in the direct realization of all truths. The wisdom of self-knowing is knowing the ultimate truth, because it is only through analyzing the meaning that cannot be expressed to others in words.
