The suchness of the nature, categories, and meanings of the categories of seats should also be viewed as they are. There are three suchnesses because, apart from the difference in characteristics, there is no difference in nature. Their nature, categories, and so on are all one. The nature of space is the absence of tangible form with obstruction, and it becomes an object of the mind's consciousness merely by obstructing. The definitive word is that space is called space because it reveals all the actions, productions, movements, and so on of embodied beings. If it is said that something without substance does not have the power to reveal other things, is it not so? If something exists in a place, other tangible things can find space to appear; if something is not perceived, such space cannot be found. It is merely called revelation. Space also has this quality because space is completely revealed by obstructing tangible form. Where there is no tangible object, there one can find space for tangible things to appear; if there is no space, one cannot find space because tangible objects obstruct the space in that place. Thus, the nature of space is to reveal space, so it cannot be said to have the function of revealing things. Therefore, space is merely the space for the production of the forms of fruits, and it does not have the power to produce other differences, so it will not become a source either. The cessation that is not obtained by the power of wisdom separately analyzing the truth, but obtained because the causes and conditions are incomplete, is the object to be negated, which is the cessation produced by the power of some incomplete causes and conditions. Because the seed has not been destroyed by the antidote, it is not permanently separated. For example, when the mind is attached to the image of a blue lotus, even though other images and other objects such as sounds are nearby, at that time, the sense consciousnesses that apprehend them obtain non-discriminating cessation and therefore do not arise. Why do these sense consciousnesses obtain non-discriminating cessation at that time? If attention is close, then at that time, other images other than the blue lotus, and other objects such as sounds that are nearby, will also have other sense consciousnesses that apprehend them.

It will arise, because the other causes besides attention are completely present. Even so, at that time, it does not arise because of the lack of attention to those causes. Merely not arising is termed as having attained cessation. However, since the antidote that eliminates the seed has not arisen, it is therefore not a permanent separation. Whatever does not arise because all causes and conditions are not complete is not non-discriminating cessation, because things that are completely non-existent, such as rabbit horns, would also be inferred to have attained non-discriminating cessation, and it is unreasonable to attain cessation when the object to be negated is not apparent. Therefore, it is the attainment of cessation of those phenomena whose own causes and conditions are partly complete and partly incomplete. That is also a future phenomenon, but not a past or present phenomenon, because it has already arisen. It belongs to the continuum of sentient beings, but not to those that do not belong to the continuum of sentient beings. That is also only to those that belong to one's own continuum, but not to those that belong to the continuum of others. Whatever phenomenon attains discriminating cessation or non-discriminating cessation, both are equally phenomena that will never arise, but there is a difference between separation and non-separation due to the difference between the antidote destroying the seed and not destroying the seed. For the truth, the cessation to be attained by the wisdom of discriminating cessation, the path of no interruption, is: whatever is negated by the power of the arising antidote, and is permanently separated because the seed is destroyed. This is only for phenomena that belong to the continuum of sentient beings, but not for those that do not belong to the continuum of sentient beings. It is only for future phenomena, but not for past and present phenomena. It is for phenomena with outflows, but not for phenomena without outflows. It is only for afflicted phenomena, but not for unobscured-unspecified phenomena and virtuous phenomena, because those phenomena are established as having been abandoned merely by separating from desire and attachment, and in the continuum of abandoning those phenomena, because the seed has not been destroyed, it will arise again. Therefore, only by destroying the seed of afflictions through the supramundane path is it called discriminating cessation, but not by separation through the mundane path, because it does not have the power to destroy the seed.
